AS FOR THE European disdain for our criminal culture, many of those countries should not spend too much time congratulating themselves.
In 2000, the rate at which people were robbed or assaulted was higher in England, Scotland, Finland, Poland, Denmark and Sweden than it was in the United States.
The assault rate in England was twice that in the United States.
In the decade since England banned all private possession of handguns, the BBC reported that the number of gun crimes has gone up sharply.
Some of the worst examples of mass gun violence have also occurred in Europe.
In recent years, 17 students and teachers were killed by a shooter in one incident at a German public school; 14 legislators were shot to death in Switzerland, and eight city council members were shot to death near Paris.
Crime statistics in England & Wales combines both Recorded Crime Statistics (crime recorded by the police) and the British Crime Survey (crime as experienced by people - gathered from surveys) into a single statistic document.
The British Crime Survey (BCS) asks randomly selected adults in private households about their experience of victimisation in the previous year. As well as the main crime counting element, a number of other crime-related issues are covered.
America however only allows crime recorded by police into statistical documents, this difference combined with different laws pertaining to what actually constitutes a violent crime and the reporting and recording methods used, make violent crime statistics almost useless.
Another factor Americans donít seem to take into consideration is the fact that Australians and British people have not been allowed in living memory to go armed in public so firearm reform has played little part in public violence.
Your quote on mass killings in Europe seems a slightly ill considered, for every mass murder in Western Europe there would be at least one in America, and America has less than a third of the population.

No we WERE a colony of Britain just like America; we just used diplomacy to gain independence, and never had to engage in war to attain our self rule.

Please donít come back.
We enjoy a reasonable tax rate, combined with an excellent average wage.
I actually have new Australian ex American friends and they love our country, one of them comes from Florida and she says Georgia is a hole of a place, though she also says most of America is great.
Only about one in three thousand settlers who came to Australia before convict transportation was ended were convicts.
Kill immigrants? Why would I want to kill my immigrant wife, she is an incredible, beautiful woman?
Why would I treat my relatives in the military like crap (one brother, one uncle and two cousins)?
Please answer the question, how are we dependent on Britain?
Please answer the question, where did you get the revolt idea from?
Are you a troll?
Nothing of what you say changes the fact that America is the new inmate country.
Hope you have a nice day.

In what possible way do we depend on England? Because I really cannot see how.
We value the good hardworking immigrants we have been lucky to have chosen to live here and become Australians and have benefited greatly from their contributions, many believe it is time to reign in the numbers coming here but only to preserve our environment and way of life, what whining?
Our tax rates are reasonable and combined with an excellent average wage we have no complaints.
We voted largely on the basis of gun reform, where do you get this revolt idea from?
America is the new inmate country, you incarcerate the largest percentage of your population, not even communist countries with re-education camps lock up as many; perhaps you should read up on American history the British transported many convicts to America, the difference is we donít hide our history, and see nothing wrong with our ancestors steeling bread to stave off starvation.
Basically you have no idea what you are talking about.
Are you stupid, or what ?

America isn't where Britain sent their convicts, AUSTRALIA is...in fact, the only good thing that ever came out of Australia is AC/DC. You can keep Paul Hogan, and please take back Russell Crowe because we don't want him. BTW, Yahoo Serious was one of yours too, wasn't he ?

Don't bitch about America, because you obviously don't know what you're talking about...go have a Foster's, throw another shrimp on the barbie, and go back to wishing you lived in the States.

If you donít even know about the British transporting convicts to America you should really do a little more research on your own country, I would be embarrassed if a foreigner knew more about my country than I do myself.
Obviously you have no idea about medical history either.
Russel Crow happens to come from New Zealand
We donít have shrimp in Australia.
I donít like Fosters.
Not only do I not want to live in America I donít even want to visit.
When did I complain about America?
Have a nice day.

I beg to differ, America was to one degree or another under direct British rule for over one hundred and fifty years; however Australia took one hundred and twelve years to gain independence and form our federation without violence, in what way does Australia belong to Britain?
Good day to you.

Shall we ban all cars and other vehicles because some people use them to kill? Wake up America and start showing some of nothing else "common sense". We need to for one stop allowing adoptions of children from other countries, isn't there enough children here in the U.S that need good homes too? It's time these third World countries came into the modern world and started to take care of their own.

The logic of your argument is flawed, guns are made for one purpose, to kill, and cars are made for transport.

Instead of all the anti gun propaganda how about these facts on how guns stop crime, save lives and protect property:

Eleven years ago your country had a mass killing larger than this one. I tend to think all the violence in the media supports this behavior. The media may claim it doesn't, but then some pay a million dollars a minute to advertise ont he superbowl, knowing the ads will influence behavior. If we could just take out the violence and leave in all the sex, worst case we get a population explosion.

So whatís your point? That the problem is not guns but American level of violence? Most other western countries donít need an armed population to maintain order, and Iím not about to kill someone to stop them steeling my car or TV, I would just claim it on insurance.

thats why everyone thinks america is so violent eaven as the level of crime decreased in this country over the past 10 years media coverage of violence has increased 600% its no wonder everyone thinks we're a bunch of "gun toteing rambo cowboys" that want to shoot first and ask questions later

i think we really should forget about banning guns and put our efforts into advanceing the idea of balanced coverage of violence(and the lack of it) in the media.....but im probably just "whistleing dixy"

I say let all USers have a gun, build a big high fence on the North and South borders.
Then do away with the police, and justice system, open up the penitentiaries give the cons guns.
Then let the USers have at it.

Well considering how you Aussies gave up your gun rights and now are disarmed and your crime rates have exploded especially violent ones IF I were you I'd hide in fear too. Learn how to beg convincingly for your life so when the car theif decides he wants your wife and money too you MIGHT be able to save your life.......or not.

When someone came to do me harm I tied him up and handed him over to the police, I was charged with detaining for advantage (the tying up) which was subsequently over turned in court.
I have a 0.0015% chance of someone trying to kill me; Iím more worried about being in a car accident, heart attack or simply falling over and hitting my head.
