Still no talk of ending birthright citizenship as part of the deal. This needs to be a part of the "package'.

Let them take the neocons like McCain, Bush, Graham and Boehner with them too. That way we may be able to save one party.

That would take a constitutional amendment; never going to happen.

If it DOES ever happen, then birthright citizenship should end for ALL, including those born to current citizens. Make EVERYONE earn their citizenship.

Not necessarily. All that needs to be done is to define "...and SUBJECT to the JURISDICTION thereof" which is already a part of the language in the Constitution.

why in the world are they calling this immigration reform? it has nothing to do with immigration reform and will certainly do nothing to stop our illegal immigration problem.

i would have to disagree.

there was a good reason for that part of the 14th when it was enacted; we had kids of slaves born here that would not have been citizens under our old rules.

that is really not an issue any more. there would be no reason to deny automatic citizenship to people born of US citizens, just change it to 'if you are born in the US, you are a citizen of the country your parents are a ctizen of.'

Most countries do not follow Jus Soli, but rather Jus Sanguinis.

no, it would in fact take a US constitutional amendment to change a US constitutional amendment.

Of course LaRatza was right in their demanding all kinds of amnesty. Thank's Reuter's at least they tell some truth. Marriot Corp.,Goldman Sachs. Corporate Lobby's attending this debate. It makes me sick. Give them all the crap they want at the U.S. tax payers expense, ie, housing, healthcare, EBT so they can clean rooms at Marriott and flip burger's at McDonalds. Why is it we can see the foolish rip off, but we the taxpayers are never included in the conversation???

I just think ALL Americans should have to earn their citizenship. Maybe they wouldn't take it for granted if they actually had to give something to their country instead of just having the luck to be born here.

In a sense i agree. i look at all the people on this forum that have no clue as to their own country and how it works. they don't even expend a minimal amount of effort to do their civic duty.

Are you talking about some national service? a citizen test? Would kids be citizens until they are old enought to do that/those?
