That's the inescapable conclusion from doing the math, and Detroit has already taken the first step down this road by declaring bankruptcy, effectively abandoning its pension obligations.
This affects schoolteachers, city workers, state workers, police, firefighters and everyone else on a government paycheck.
Yes, Detroit owes former government employees -- teachers, firefighters, cops and more -- a whopping $3.5 billion in current and future payments. Except Detroit doesn't have $3.5 billion to pay the pensions. The city is in a state of economic collapse. Remember, the U.S. government used billions in taxpayer money to help General Motors move its manufacturing offshore to countries like China. As a result of economically-insane actions and criminal mismanagement, a city that used to be the hub of industrial output in America has become a ghost town of abandoned buildings, crumbling infrastructure and financial destitution.
But even as all this was becoming apparent, the government workers there continued to collect fat paychecks and pensions, all based on the promise that endless population growth would out-pace the rise in pension obligations. Many pensioners are owed over $100,000 a year from the government, and this is true across California, Illinois and many other states as well.
Chicago, for example, owes $19 billion in pension payments that it doesn't have, and the city of Los Angeles is more than $30 billion in the hole.
Chicago will be next and Los Angeles? just send all the illegals to California and give the whole state back to Mexico.
Cancellation of health benefits for retirees are a no-brainer because these benefits are never guaranteed by law.

Cancellation of pension benefits are a more difficult issue that will be the subject of litigation. However, if the paying authority simply does not have the money, and cannot raise the money, then the pensioners become just another creditor.

Detroit is different than many other cities because there is nobody left to pay the taxes, and those few who are left are not paying because their property is worth less than the taxes.

47% are paying for 53% in Illinois. Chicago has sucked off the taxpayer so much that there is an exodus going on there also. They have closed schools because there are not enough kids. They keep raising property taxes because so many homes were foreclosed on and left sitting. The banks are artificially keeping housing prices up by only allowing so many houses on the market and sitting on others. There is no shortage... so-called shadow inventory -- homes that are owned by banks or facing foreclosure but not yet on the market. In January, shadow inventory totaled about 2.2 million nationwide, according to real estate data firm CoreLogic Inc. Nearly half of that inventory was in Florida, New York, California, Illinois, and New Jersey.
But that's actually down 28 percent from its peak of 3 million units in 2010, which means that these homes are starting to creep out of the shadows. Good news for banks, but bad news for those who have been working to stave off foreclosure as they are being pushed out of their homes.(non-payers will have to get out.)
RealtyTrac recently reported that Florida continues to lead the nation in the number of foreclosures (85,671 in the first quarter).
Despite earlier fears that banks would open the gates and thousands of foreclosures would flood the market and stall any real housing recovery, in reality banks have maintained self-control, holding off on putting foreclosures on the market, and with good reason. Any idiot that thinks housing is recovering, well, is just an idiot. They have no clue what is going on.

Republican decide 10-15 years ago U.S. need a war. Problem is, U.S. already spending more on war-fighting prep than the rest of the world together so the question that arises is: how and with whom do we start a war that's believable? Republican power structure decide best way is to start war against words and vague concepts; now we got war on "Terror!" Suddenly we at war with Terror. Tonto watch all this with amused consternation; how can an entire nation be duped by blundering, white morons? But there you go! So Tonto reevaluate his reality. Now Tonto ready to start war too, against "Growth." Growth is bad, bad word. Way worse than "terror." Difference is we can win this one! World is full. World is dying it so full. Not need more growth, need less growth; lot less. California not need more businesses, California need less people more fish. You try and buy swordfish lately? What kind of idiot thinks that growth is the answer to overcrowding and rabid overuse of resources? I'll tell you what kind: businessmen. America ultimate pyramid scheme: lotta room at bottom but little tiny point on top followed by no point at all.

A general incompetence of emperors and failure of traditional politics led to a corrupt political structure and an oppressive burden of taxation. This, in turn, led to inflation and debasing of Roman currency which bred apathy and angst that caused many Romans to flee politics and later the "city-states" of the Empire, the urban foundation on which rested most of ancient life.

Inflation is bad, I fear however that deflation is going to set in. The dollar is going to be worthless, because we are going to lose our place as the world currency. No more petro dollars and we will no longer be able to print money. Liberals have never understood that WMDs are also economics. When a country sets out to destroy our economy, we have went to war. "Woof-woof" Black gangsta thug or victim of police harassment? You be the judge.
Florida starting linebacker Antonio Morrison has been suspended from the team after his second arrest in barely more than a month.
Gainesville Police say Morrison approached an officer's vehicle at the scene of a disturbance early Sunday morning and began barking at a police dog.
Morrison, 19, was arrested and charged with "interfering with police by harassing a police animal" and resisting arrest without violence after allegedly initially refusing to cooperate with officers' attempts to detain him. Both charges are misdemeanors.
Morrison was also arrested June 16 after allegedly punching a bouncer at a Gainesville nightclub. Though Florida coach Will Muschamp said at SEC media days he had not yet decided on a punishment for Morrison related to that incident, he announced Sunday he has suspended the rising sophomore in the wake of his latest arrest.
"I'm extremely disappointed in Antonio Morrison's decision making," Muschamp said in a statement released by Florida. "He has been suspended from the team and will miss at least two games to begin the season."
Florida opens Aug. 31 with Toledo, then travels to Miami in Week 2 -- a game where Morrison's absence could be keenly felt. The former four-star recruit from Illinois played in all 13 Florida games as a true freshman in 2012, starting three, and was expected to ascend to the starting lineup full-time this season.
According to the police report, a K9 officer named "Bear" was sitting inside a stopped police car outside a Gainesville nightclub Sunday morning when Morrison walked by. The report says Morrison approached and began making what he reportedly described as a "woof-woof sound" at the dog, interrupting the officers' investigation and leading to the arrest.
Morrison's June 16 arrest came on charges of simple battery. He later accepted a deferred prosecution agreement that would see the charges dismissed after six months if he fulfilled the terms of the agreement.
