Answer one question. Why did not the IRS ask a single liberal 501 (c)(4) organization the same illegal questions?
I am not advocating that it would be OK for the IRS to target groups based on the political affiliation. I am saying that it is difficult for the IRS to determine whether these groups meet the criteria because these rules are not very precise. With the flood of new groups forming, the IRS had to do something to determine who to look at.
Maybe the investigation will shed more light on the statistics & who directed this type of targeting.
It makes you wonder what went on in the past since these are not typically political appointments or under direct control of the executive branch.
