Survey finds 97% climate science papers agree warming is man-made

There are 106 comments on the www.guardian.co.uk story from May 16, 2013, titled Survey finds 97% climate science papers agree warming is man-made. In it, www.guardian.co.uk reports that:

Overwhelming majority of peer-reviewed papers taking a position on global warming say humans are causing it

Our team of citizen science volunteers at Skeptical Science has published a new survey in the journal Environmental Research Letters of over 12,000 peer-reviewed climate science papers, as the Guardian reports today. This is the most comprehensive survey of its kind, and the inspiration of this blog's name: Climate Consensus – the 97%.

Canada says it's not man-made and there is no global warming in the first place. Who you going to believe? Obama? LOL...That's very funny.
Canadian scientists say the real non-political science that they use say the globe is cooling. This FACT is having a tough time getting south of their border. Americans are so stupid it's incredible. The public schools have really done a great job of dumbing all the children down into stupid adults.

"If people disagree with what we've found we want to know," said Mark Richardson of the University of Reading in England, one of the authors of the study that looked at English-language studies by authors in more than 90 nations.

Another co-author, Dana Nuccitelli of Skeptical Science, said she was encouraging scientists to stress the consensus "at every opportunity, particularly in media interviews".

Opinion polls in some countries show widespread belief that scientists disagree about whether climate change is caused by human activities or is part of natural swings such as in the sun's output.

A survey by the U.S. Pew Research Center published in October last year found 45 percent of Americans said "Yes" when asked: "Do scientists agree Earth is getting warmer because of human activity?" Forty-three percent said "No".

Rising concentrations of carbon dioxide, the main greenhouse gas, hit 400 parts per million in the atmosphere last week, the highest in perhaps 3 million years.

Governments have agreed to work out, by the end of 2015, a deal to slow climate change that a U.N. panel of experts says will cause more floods, droughts and rising sea levels.

Canada is a country, and does not speak. Scientists, including Canadian scientists almost all agree.

The interesting statistic is the 3% who are mostly on the payroll of energy companies.

Your ignorant supertition does not hold up to observed scientific reality.

Mars, which has no internal heat source and no atmosphere to speak of also has "global warming".

About 3000 years ago, there was the Minoan warming, 2000 years ago the Roman warming, and 1000 years ago the Medieval warming period. These warming periods were not caused by man, is the current one caused by man? How much carbon dioxide and methane is man responsible for putting into the atmosphere compared to volcanos and natural outgassing from the ocean? If we really are adding too much and affecting the climate negatively, is there a way to reduce our emmisions without destroying our economies and causing major disruptions(war)? I hate the "solution" that always comes up, that involves throwing away money to 3rd world countries to be squandered by thugs and despots. We need to safeguard our environment wisely and scientifically.

I am amazed that the Left thinks that there are still some gullible enough to accept the now discredited premise of 'global warming' in the first place especially in light of the global cooling trend that has been going on for many years now. Not to mention the empirical evidence of colder seasons. I suppose that there are still a few suckers left for Al Gore and his ilk to sell carbon credits to.

To think that man controls the climate is plain arrogance.

Stop the volcanoes (which expels, spews toxic gases into the earth's atmosphere and destroys the surrounding landscape, stop the earthquakes, stop the hurricanes, control the wind, increase the rain, stop the snow.

'Experts' can't even predict the daily weather accurately.

'Experts' have tried to control water for ages and have fumbled.

We find the ruins of ancient cities submerged, under water-did the people who populated those cities cause the problem?;
We find the remnants of cities under sand in the deserts. Did the people who populated the area cause their cities to be covered with sand? Weather CHANGES constantly! It has and it always will.

Long ago, people sacrificed other human beings to the 'sun god','rain god' because of their fear of weather changes, eclipses, and other sundry concerns. People even sacrificed their own children so the rain gods would make their crops flourish.

That same mentality is alive and functioning in our own societies in another fashion.

STOP THE ARROGANCE OF MAN!

The thing to remember about all this agreement on global warming is that

Agreement that global warming exits does not = agreement as to it's cause. If there is not agreement as to it's cause that does not = agreement as to what to do about it. If there is agreement as to what to do about it that does not = agreement as to that being effective as curtailing it. And that is where the rub comes in they would have us pass all these laws which in many cases would hurt our economy but they can't promise us we will get anything out of it.

First, it is Stephen Harper, the PM, NOT 'Canada'. And the scientists here say the same thing as in the US, they are just being 'defunded' as fast as Harper can create the 'Omnibus bills' to 'change the country so that Canadians won't recognize it'.
BandMaster wrote:

There are no such scientists left in Canada. Harper fired any that wouldn't 'play ball' with him. And there is no science behind 'cooling' claims.
BandMaster wrote:

I'm glad that the US isn't fooled by Harper. But then again, most Canadians are also not being fooled. The public in Canada is better educated and accepts AGW more than the US. In fact, we signed the Kyoto Accord (which the US never got to), so even though Mr. Harper has disabled it and then got rid of it, the PUBLIC understands what is going on.
BandMaster wrote:

Some. You are probably a point in that data. Or maybe you are a Canadian idiot?
BandMaster wrote:

The PUBLIC school system in the US is certainly failing, while all real money goes to the private schools where the son's and daughters' of priveledge go. Even there, the corruption is rampant, not because of defunding as in the public system but because of the INFLUENCE of money. Then there is Texas, which can eliminate historical figures like Jefferson from Textbooks to push an agenda.

So on this, I somewhat agree. Despite this, the evidence is overwhleming enough to have penetrated the public perceptions.

And the SCIENCE is overwhelming. The percentage that agree with AGW theory tends to be a linear function of education and climate science education.

Ah,, the smell of denial in the morning. What a laugh..
And no. They don't need a LOT of laws. Just one international agreement on a 'price on carbon' that will be refunded by direct payment or tax reductions to keep it 'revenue neutral'.
Robert wrote:

Unfounded claim. Economists agree that there would be a short term 'adjustment' penalty, but that the long term economic advantage would then boost the economy.
Robert wrote:

Politicians will try to disable it, add loopholes, and complicate it to the point that it is ineffective (at the behest of well funded corporate lobby groups) so the key is to get an INTERNATIONAL agreement that charges for carbon in fuels (which is easily measured and avoids the generation of red tape). It is up to the PUBLIC to demand this EFFECTIVE action instead of 'the usual'.

The main point that denialists like Robert miss is that the public learning, yes, but the FACT is that there is overwhelming support in the SCIENCES for AGW theory. FACTS that the denial campaign can obscure but not hide.

Yes, Global warming is man made! Or to be more to the point, Government made! Governments have been playing weather games since the early 1950s. Seeding clouds with silver iodide crystals, HAARP and ELF to mention a few of their methods. "Global Warming" is the biggest scam they've come up with yet.
