Workers at McDonald's, Burger King and Wendy's restaurants across New York walked out Monday in a one-day strike to demand better pay and the right to unionize, calling for minimum wage to more than double from $7.25 to $15 an hour and the end to what activists called "abusive labor practices."

I know it is probably surprising to you but not everyone in this country is struggling to earn a decent living. The average is just that ... represents the middle of the earning curve. Just because your trapped at the low end of the curve does not mean that the poster from Kent is.
Your math appears to be based on the same flawed logic that you use to justify paying the unskilled 15.00 an hour.
If you don't read the statistics of an area with a population of 28,000, then maybe you should shut up buddy.

And I never agreed to a $15.00 per hr. wage - but definitely 9 / 10 bucks is more than reasonable.

Not flawed logic on my end numbskull - I research, post actual facts, and provide links.

What do you do? Blabber your OPINION! Nothing more.

Big talk from the obvious cable puller, who appears to know very little about network security and monitoring. Large corporations monitor bandwidth usage and block the sites which they do not want employees to visit. The only organizations that actually monitor individuals are little mom and pop companies,... too many seats to monitor in a real company.
Your statement illuminates you have no clue how data management is utilized.

We use outsourced network monitoring (cloud based) and data management to track employees you idiot!

Again, not a clue what you're talking about.

Actually genius I work as a network engineer for a large corporation, in an area where the median income is $38,764, however that is far short of what I or for that matter anyone in our corporation makes. That's how I know your full of $hit. So maybe you should take your own advice and shut your pie hole.

Again "little" company. Large corporations do not track individuals, they track bandwidth usage and flag IP's based on this for further investigation. Keep telling us that you know what your talking about ... you may find someone who believes you.

Cost of food in NYC ( Brooklyn and Queens Bronx etc ) is much cheaper than suburbs . You just got to know where to buy it .
Where you live you can rent out a room for 600 a month or 125 a week so .Not so bad , is it .
The cost of living in NYC is the highest in the country.
Fast food workers should be paid a fair and livable wage and the right to organize.

Who would rent a room other than a kid moving away from home for the first time?

Listen you fool - bandwidth tracking only correlates whether you are streaming music, videos, or porn. Almost every large corporation I've dealt with have these particular sites blocked - hence, no necessity to track bandwidth.

That's old school chit - try again - because if you work in the IT field, you're not up to speed Spunky!

Then that's pretty sad, but some may have no other choice.
I doubt if any adult is going to make a career out of a fast food joint.
It may just be a means to an end.
At least they're working and not seeking welfare.
I know people that work two full time jobs to make ends meet and there is nothing wrong with that.

The jobs ain't coming back, but,if you want them back you're gonna have to invent a time machine and halt technology as we know it.
People are now capable of creating the products a half a world away with an unskilled, underpaid work force subsidized by Governments without crippling regulations and taxes for a fraction of the price unionized Americans once did.
The only thing at this point thats gonna boost the economy with decent paying jobs is to drill baby drill.
The only lesson we learned as a nation through it all is to dumb down the masses.
All we can strive for is to not create our own brutal brand of ruthless Arab oil sheiks.
I know about some of those jobs. I know an acquaintance who owned a metal fabrication shop. He had a couple of employees, and the equipment he needed to provide the metal products for his customers. One day a few years back, he went to the local grocery store and saw some cooking pots for sale. He looked at the pots and saw that the material was of good quality. He observed that the workmanship was good. He saw the sticker on the back said, "Made in China." He also saw the price was very low, lower even that it would cost him for the raw materials to make that cooking pot.

That means that if he paid his employees zero in wages, with no benefits, had no electric bill, and paid nothing for heating nor cooling, paid no taxes, paid nothing for the equipment, he still could not compete. Just buying the raw materials would force him out of profitability.

The problem is not the taxes, nor the wages and benefits, it is currency manipulation by other foreign nations to steal our jobs. Our politicians go along with it, because they get high campaign "donations" to keep their jobs along with a few perks. They get lobbyists writing all the laws so they don't have to do any work. They all get rich, while we lose our jobs and have to work at whatever is left. So, would you like fries with that?

Selling off all the wealth of the nation to the highest bidder only insures we will become more impoverished. When you claim drill baby drill will restore the economy I have to laugh. The rich will get richer, and the workers will get screwed again. How do you think any of that wealth, in the pockets of the rich will ever go to those who did the work, whom the rich don't need any more?

Hey moron, there are millions of underemployed Americans working in fast food and retail. We're just as smart and capable as anyone else, but we continue to be beaten down by an inhumane economic and political system that doesn't value social welfare and public education like most industrialized democracies.

Far from it. I'm raising my voice about economic injustice. Not just on blog sites, but also through political action, which could include a run for elected office in 2014.

You're running for office? Great!
You do realize that you'll still be dependent on someone else to feed you though.

There is more than enough wealth in the U.S. to care of everyone. How much money does the 1% really need?

Good question! I suppose they have more than they really need.
Now, answer me this. How much more do they have than they really need?
How much is just enough?
