Some of the comments on here are really ignorant.

Both candidates deserve respect.

Douglas was on the team that developed the first stealth fighter, he worked for Reagan as a democrat, he worked on the tomahawk cruise missile.

I am sure the Mr Hurt has also done many good things.

The ignorance in our society is just sad.

Douglas keeps claiming Hurt has uranium interests, name the names of the connections then or shut up about it.
Hurt family owns uranium land in southern Virginia. Once it is opened up it will contaminate the land around for hundreds of years.

Paul Ryan is talking about Hurt as a Vice=Presidential running mate in 2020, thanks to his long list of legislative accomplishments, and many foreign policy triumphs.

Do we really want to risk losing one of the great future leaders of the free world just to elect a tired crankly old man who is best known by the nickname, General Poopypants?

Douglas is nothing more than a carpetbagger...doesn't know anything about the district, doesn't know anything about the people of the district, has absolutely no idea of what the important issues are to the people of the district.... come november douglas will be sent packing... Hurt has my vote as well as the other Republicans on the ballot......enough of this liberal nonsense...
Carpetbagger? Robert Hurt was born in New York. He attended private schools, his father was either the publisher or editor of the Readers Digest, based in New York. Robert Hurt is out of touch with his constituents, a carpetbagger with a sliver spoon in his mouth. Not that Douglass is any better. I'm abstaining on the Hurt/Douglass vote as there is no good choice. Maybe the should make it easy on you straight ticket voters and put a giant R or D so you cast one vote for all and follow all the other drones, not making a conscious decision. Straight ticket voters are as dangerous as single issue voters

If the uranium is in the "uranium land in southern Virginia", isn't the land already "contaminated"?

No, it has to be mined, the uranium is not in the topsoil where plants would pick it up, and plants would not pick it up anyways because uranium is not used in any biologic process. The danger is the dust that will be put into the air when it's mined and the dust settles on plants that are eaten by animals. The uranium itself is probably 60-80 feet under the surface, just like coal. The radiation given off by the uranium is shielded by the 60-80 feet of rock and topsoil . More radiation arrives from the sun in one minute than would come in a year from the currently buried uranium, Pretty much open pit mining and all the problems that come with that. Many tons of rock will have to mined to get a few ounces if uranium. It will be similar to mining bauxite, many tons of bauxite to get a few pounds of aluminum, huge scars on the landscape from any open pit mining operation

So the ground IS contaminated, just that the radiation doesn't "leak" out in enough concentration to be harmful?

I guess its the definition of ground, is the ground a piece of earth that goes all the way through the mantle to the liquid core of the earth? If thats the case, all the ground and ocean floors are contaminated as there are radioactive materials, petroleum, heavy metals etc. The millions of years of sediment that has settled has covered the rocky parts of the earth and its called soil or dirt, typically the heavy metals or petroleum usually don't come to the surface unless we bring them to the surface. Between the plants on the surface and the bedrock is TYPICALLY soil or dirt. Yes sometimes petroleum spontaneously bubbles to the surface because of pressure and heat from the earth, but not too common.

Dissilusioned,
The "war" of which you speak is some basic inequality. Women use birth control for serveral reasons, one of which is to prevent pregnancy. Why should it not be covered when coverage for viagra for men is not questioned?
Hardly a war, don't you admit?

The rationale for insurance companies to cover Viagra is that it is a drug to correct a health problem/defect (erectile dysfunction), the pill prevents pregnancy -- which is not a health problem/defect.

Most here have already made up their mind, and say what you will, but talking poorly about a war veteran because he didn't choose your team is pretty despicable, even the great late Ret. Lt. Hackworth admitted he was wrong about Ret. Gen. Clark

That's about as dumb as saying Hurt and the republicans should be tried for treason, for being the party of no.
