the kids of the low-perform Areas need a new type of schooling.. like isolated one-on one schooling so that one person can focus on helping them improve ..

It Actually means hiring more teachers you could sign up in a teaching booth or something..

do like a thing where if you have more higher degree you get paid more and you can still do the job just you get paid less if you don't have one..

That list of failing schools at the start of this thread was not a complete list. Parents need to get organized and get the real data and info stop listening to the morons on topix that blame your children. All the best Experts will tell you ever child can learn. They will also tell you failing schools produce not only uneducated children at the levels they should be per-grade but a higher drop out rate, higher addiction rate, higher crime rate, higher teen pregnancy rate all of which the entire Fayette County currently suffers and has suffered for years from many years of a direct result of ongoing failing schools and the root cause is not students its Teachers and Principals in which the state or county is holding accountable instead they falsely pass the blame onto the students and parents then refuse to properly deal with parents when the smarter ones do confront the schools they hope on their ego high horse and ignore everything you say. There are just countless stories from parents and reviews. What up get organized.

Although it is implied to educators by the State Department that they are 100% accountable, I have to disagree. Just like with most situations, there are MANY variables that influence outcome. *Parents need to get off drugs and raise their kids. *Pressure is rising and morale is declining for teachers. *Violence in school, along with bullying and peer pressure (administration and parents both responsible). * It needs to be emphasized to students that THEY are responsible for their actions. * Classrooms need to be smaller. * Teachers can't teach empty classrooms, so kids need to go to school. * Poverty is increasing due to mass lay-offs, which makes educational resources limited (computers, music lessons, private tutors, etc...). * I know it can't hardly be helped, but high divorce rates add stress to students as well as regular parent exchanges. Single parents work long hours and are forced to spend less time with their children. * Child hunger as well as lack of sleep cause disturbances in learning. * Lack of callaboration in some schools (faculty needs to work together, not compete for notoriety). In general, we adults all play a key part in the children's education.

My Turn is right on. Teachers cannot teach when students are disruptive or hungry or just don't care. In Mercer Co. every child gets free breakfast and free lunch and I think next year it is mandatory state wide because children are hungry. Children are also tired and sleepy. Some of the high schoolers work until late in the evenings. Other students have no one at home to make them go to bed at a reasonable hour or the parents get home late and there is still homework to do. Some of the students and parents just do not care. Teachers cannot be held accountable for everything. Then there is extra stress on the kids. Some of the parents probably cannot do the homework themselves. I know I did not have a lot of the classes in high school or even middle school as the kids have now. I would be at a total loss if I had to help my son on a lot of it. I know very little about computer and even less about the math and science he has. There are a whole lot of factors so let's not just blame the schools. Parents need to get involved. Parents need to teach their children respect and responsibility. Community needs to help children with food. Maybe we need somewhere where children can go after school to get free tutoring, perhaps as a part of college students teacher training or community service or perhaps retired teachers . I do not know the answers but I do know it takes a lot more that teachers doing their jobs to accomplish this!!!!

Go ahead and place "some" of the blame on teachers but I put most of the blame on parents! Far too many parent are so poorly educated that they're unable to assist their children with their homework.
Yes why don't you be honest or maybe your one of those maybe recovering teachers. Kids goto school to learn, parents work and pay taxes to sent their kids to school to learn and get real educations and the school claims it has Highly Qualified Teachers plus these are the highest paid at 47k a year out of 9 other states with the same low poverty students and 10k less a year and their schools all passed hum wonder why that is, plus these teachers get 8 wks paid vacation a yr parents like myself are lucky to get 1 paid week and that is no vacation its time to work on all the crap I don't have time to while working. So let me see if I under stand you right, Uneducated kids are to blame because they are not mature and educated yet. Parents are to play because they work and many are products of a school system that has failed to teach more than 30 some yrs now. So parents as you say should work their own jobs or pay to go back to school for what they missed in their school days during hard economic times high inflation and do the work that we all pay taxes and damn good wages to these so called Highly Qualified Teachers and 3/4 of the students fail and are below average must be nice wish I made that much got that much vacation time and had someone come do part of my job for me. How many of them pills did you take before you made your little rant on students and parents do you have someone come do part of your job for you or do you even have a job or ever had one given so many don't then spend days and nights on topix insulting the decent people so back up what you say with real facts.

What a bunch of total nonsense..Good job:)
The educational system is culpable to some extent of course, but let's put the pasture patty in the right pocket here.. PARENTS are the number one problem, the "system" catering to every suggestion or whim by a public, which doesn't know there "A" from a vowel, plus threatened and REAL lawsuits from every direction and other factors of course, can also be put at the top of the list.
Sports is what the public is concerned about and nothing else...Drive by a school building on a night they are having parent teachers meetings to discuss student progress...THEN drive by a football field or basketball gymnasium on GAME nights..
Count the cars and crowds at each....I rest my case:)
The PROBLEM is this...Everyone runs the school system EXCEPT the teachers....Bring back discipline, give the teachers the POWER our teachers were given, let them teach and get out of the way...
Guaranteed things will get much better.
Stories "everyone tells"...I'll repeat what I have said many times.. People attack teachers because the are and EASY TARGET and can't fight back....
Everyone has gone to school so that makes everyone an "expert' concerning education....Whew!
P.S. I'm not a teacher, so we can stop that "charge" that's going to be levied from the get go:)
School systems are well paid either you live in a cave or are some sort of butt kisser the school system is paid to do a job and for a long time they have failed to do that job at all levels in these school system so play your pity teacher party on those foolish enough not to know. The schools been investigated a long time now which was why the state had to take over. But let me guess only students who play sports or parents have big paying jobs get a education and those not from the area or that have low paying or no jobs their kids don't get a education they get all the trouble and low end of everything right because that is what I have been seeing and hearing one of these threads has over 800 comments on it guess all those people are wrong must be right, no wrong!!!!

Pulled my kids out 3 years ago they all had their grades go up no more rude teachers and bullies cost me a bundle to move but my kids are worth it and I can work my job in peace without all the weekly BS that came from that school that is Say What Moron.

How Florida Schools Are Failing To Prepare Graduates For College
http://fcir.org/2012/12/03/13th-grade-how-flo...
Florida’s K-12 public education system has graduated hundreds of thousands of students in the past decade who couldn’t read, write or solve math problems well enough to take some college-level courses.
More than half of high school graduates who took the college placement test in the 2010-2011 school year found out they had to take at least one remedial course in college to boost basic skill. These students couldn’t pass at least one subject on the placement exam used to assess the abilities of incoming students.
Florida’s 28 public community and state colleges are required to accept anyone with a high school diploma or G.E.D.
Students taking remedial classes have a harder time getting through college. They must pay for — and the state must subsidize – these basic-skills courses. They do not receive credit toward graduation for remedial classes, and can’t take courses that do count for credit until their skills improve. The result for these students is a longer path to graduating college.
Many of those students never complete their studies.
The need for remedial education is a nationwide problem. But it’s a significantly worse problem in Florida than elsewhere, despite the state’s reputation as a pioneer in overhauling K-12 education.
Fix your own problems Saggy May.
Not that I care about what Fla is doing or not but fact is is than 15 % of Wv High School Grads make it past a 1st yr of collage because they didn't earn the grades which says something and it says something for Fla and many other states because they greatly improved their school systems not that mores not needed.Other states sure as hell made great efforts and did improve and seen to it children did get a fair chance we can stay that here and be honest about it be honest the schools here are just corrupt and don't care about
actually teaching..

Its not just WV failing most states fail just in different areas and some worse than others. Its not money and its not the children or the parents its the school systems do a little homework see why school systems are failing. The last one on the list helps poor states because it provides proper funding but not when they abuse it and scam the system.

Excuse me, but teachers do NOT get 8 weeks paid vacation! Some teachers opt for deferred pay, which means during the school year, money is taken out of their checks each pay period so they will have money over the summer when school is out. I am sick and tired of everyone thinking that teachers have it made and putting all the blame on teachers. If you think teaching is easy, then go and get your teaching degree and come join us!

And some teachers teach almost the entire year. How can teachers teach if the parents have not taught the kids respect and responsibility at home? How can teachers teach if the parents themselves do not or cannot help the child with homework and studying? How can teachers teach when parents do not get involved in their child's education? Teachers are not miracle workers, they are humans. Most teachers put in a lot of extra time or week-ends and after school too. Most of the teachers my son has had, are either available before school or after school to tutor the children. The problem is a lot of parents do not make arrangements to get their child to school early or picked up late.Parents are a child's first teacher. If the parents have not taught their child basic things then the teacher cannot be expected too. And if parents do not think it important enough to make arrangements for their children, then why do the kids care?
