After Sandy Hook, after twenty children were shot and killed at a place where they should have been safe from all harm, there was some optimism among supporters of gun control: perhaps now, finally, both Democrats and Republicans could see the light - and the suffering - and revive the assault-weapons ban.

It is fair to assume that a gun used in a street murder is not registered to the shooter.
That gun was previously legally ownrd by someone.
That someone should be arrested as a co-defendant.
If he can prove the gun was stolen, before a judge, he can be separated from the trial; or if the judge feels he was negligent, charged with a lessedr crime, like accessory.
This will force gun owners, many of whome are obviously supplying guns for street crime, to tighten up their act.
Honest, responsible, careful gun owners have nothing to worry about, do they?

I feel the same way when an auto is stolen and used in a crime. That auto was previously legally owned by someone.
That someone should be arrested as a co-defendant.
If he can prove the auto was stolen, before a judge, he can be separated from the trial; or if the judge feels he was negligent, charged with a lesser crime, like accessory, especially if the auto is a Lamborghini because every crook wants to steal a really fast sports car and the owner should have realized it before he bought it. That folks is liberal logic.

Your second amendment right should stay in your sock drawer or near your six pack - keep them away from those who have a "right" to feel safe away from those guns.
You have the right to stay in your house hiding under your bed like the little coward you are. If you were around in 1776, you would have crawled on your hands and knees to the Red Coats saying "please don't hurt me, kill my neighbor". People like you deserve neither liberty nor freedom. Your kind are little worms, with no backbone.

Problem NOT solved, your plan would be to arrest without any proof of guilt, ergo, presumed guilty until innocense can be proved. In every other action the opposite is true, thus the discrimination of only one group of people who have done NOTHING illegal.

You say stop defending crime, well billy boy I spent 26 years arresting criminals and have been a responsible gun owner for 41 years, and you?

With your plan, if we were to apply it on a more broad way, every Spanish looking person would have to supply proof of being here in a legal way at the whim of any law enforcement officer.

Every Middle Eastern person would have to take a polygraph before being allowed on an airplane.

I am sure that you would not condone the last two so I must ASSUME that you only wish to impose these guilty until proven innocent means to gun owners, ONLY.

Again, it is VERY OBVIOUS that you dislike guns, ok no problem, however, that does not give you the right to deprive others of a right given under the second amendment.

I don'want to prevent abortions. It needs to be a hard choice. They should be regulated, just like guns are regulated now. We have the laws, we don't need new ones. The people that make the arguement about protecting the kids from guns SHOULD use the same arguement about protecting kids from abortions! ANOTHER LIBERAL DOUBLE STANDARD!
"Kids" are not aborted, and guns are not regulated when 40% of them are sold without any checking.

Serving in combat is no proof you're a patriot. To me, being a patriot of this country requires that you have compassion for the least fortunate among us, that you don't use bigotry to prevent others from living as they wish, that you believe in liberty and justice for all.

Good for you. Now get the rest of the gunloons to do the same.

Again, you are so naive about polling, it's sad in a funny way.

If all these guns are unregistered what makes you think it is 40% of all guns sold? Another gaelic guess from the smoked Irishman.

Unlike the others I agree with you.
That is why as the NRA fought back ill considered gun control over the past years, causing the crime rate to drop and so allowed more persons to feel comfortable enough not to get or keep guns. That comfort is now gone it is going to the Rogue Predators as hope their glory days will return.

L. Wolf has one other firmly held "belief" , namely that if you are a person of mixed race from the islands, his liberalism allows him to refer to you as a "baboon", even if you share a good many of his political views. So much for his view of bigotry, which apparently means he hates it in everyone but himself.

This person stalked me through two Topix forums, doubling down on his baboon insult even after my African heritage was explained to him.

My liberalism is not at all like Mr. Wolf's, whose only joy in life seems to be coming up with the most vile and hurtful replies he can imagine. Spewing hate & contempt is not liberal nor is it "compassionate". That should be self-evident.

As for background checks, I support them. You should look into LW's background too, including his hundreds of disgusting insult post, and consider the source before you pay him any heed.

YES kids are ABORTED, 3400 a day! You tell me what is the purpose for an abortion? You are parroting stats from a speech Obama gave. SORRY, I don't believe a word that comes from his mouth. He has lied too many times to take serious. I have read a stat that it is more like 9% of all firearm sales. Besides, every change in the law that has been floated would have done NOTHING to stop Sandy Hook. We don't know for sure if the guns were locked up. If not, a gun safe would had done more to foil that CRAZY kids day!

I think the fact that someone goes into battle for their country and defend other folks(you remember our mission in Beruit 1982-84) is a pretty good sign one loves their country and fellow man.I know countless others have served longer and have seen more than I have, but I did my share.

L. Wolf did a similar thing to a brother from St Kitts a couple of months ago. He denied it until it was reposted, then he claimed the insult was in the victim's mind and not his, therefore no racism occured. So now black people are apes & baboons, and furthermore we are also racist against ourselves!? Truly crazy, he is.

He is a very bad man. He needs a severe re-education. I'd love to do that in person.

You are wasting your time discussing anything with L. Wolf. He needs to be banned from Topix. Twice he has use monkey comparisons to island people. He is only nere to look for an excuse to make the most vile insult he can think of. No real discussion is occuring. He purports to be liberal, but that seems to be to cover his nasty behavior. It would not surprise me to learn he's really a right-winger trying to discredit liberals.

He actually believes he can use any racial insult he wants, because he's "not known to be racist, or the rasicm is not in his mind, or liberals cannot be racist" - take your pick of his idiotic excuses.

Yes, that is what this man believes! You can read it for yourself.

Ah, the 40% myth is alive and well.

The 40 percent figure is incorrect. It was obtained by the rounding up of a 36 percent statistic that comes from the only study on the issue.
The small study covered a 1991-94 period, most of which came before the Brady Act took effect on Feb. 28 1994, and for the first time required that all federally-licensed dealers perform checks. Basically the 40% figure which was actually a 36% figure was stats done before background checks were required.
In addition, the researchers gave this number for all transactions, including family inheritances and gifts, not just "sales."

Now if you count only guns that were bought, traded, borrowed, rented, issued as a job requirement or won through raffles you end up with 85 percent going through background checks and only 15 percent not having background checks. Again, inheritance and gifts do NOT require a background check and they included in the 15 percent.

ALL Democrats aren't on board with this nonsense and when we give up and don't show up to vote in the next election (or next two elections) you can blame Feinseint and company for our apathy.

Not that the Dems are doing much for us anyway, Medicare for All wasn't even on the table in the healthcare debate nor was a public option, nothing at all was done to rein in medical prices, and Obama is open to cuts in SS and Medicare as well as other programs.

The IS no Democratic party, only a Middle Right and a Far Right GOP.

On the only two issues the GOP has EVER been right about (even a stopped clock is right twice a day), guns and illegal immigration, the Democrats have chosen to challenge them on.
