"Gov. Mark Dayton has signaled that he would sign a bill to legalize gay marriage."

I think we'll be seeing more of this type of thing as the panic dies down and people start realizing how detrimental, especially economically, it's going to be for the places that continue to outlaw marriage equality.

Even as the knuckle-dragging idiots continue to rage and drool, more advanced people recognize that as more places recognize equality, the harder it's going to be to attract talent (and money!) to the places that don't.

And a GOP Senator is a co-author of the bill, in spite of the typical threats from NOM to target him in his next election.

Of course the fact that he's 27 y/o and his father-in-law is gay might explain his support.

It will be interesting to see how this plays out.

A sample of one does not a survey make. If anyone should be looking past personal relationships and looking at the big picture, it would be a legislator.

Two of the biggest pro-gay talking points during the recent vote were:
* "Gay marriage is already illegal in Minnesota, so a Constitutional Ammendment is unneccessary."
* "The Republicans should be concentrating on more important issues, such as the budget."

So now that the Ammendment was defeated and the MN Legislature is in session, the first thing the pro-gay want to do is legalize gay marriage, and make it the most important issue, ahead of the budget.

The Ammendment was defeated by only the slimmest of margins. It may have passed if the homosexuals had not employed deceit.

LOL!!! What's you basis for the claim that "the pro-gay" have put marriage equality legislation ahead of the budget?? Believe me, if "the pro-gay" had that kind of power, we wouldn't be discussing this. Marriage equality would have been passed long ago.

And what "deceit" are you claiming was used to defeat the anti-marriage amendment??

Too funny, dude. Do you really think you can make up crazy stuff like that and we'll just buy it??

Actually, if you wish to be accurate, it was the last legislature that put the anti-gay work ahead of EVERYTHING! they ran on the "jobs, jobs, jobs," ticket but didn't do anything but push two amendments that got passed on by the people who then booted them out of office.

This legislature has already done their budget work, and THEN moved on to this important issue of human rights.

what deceit was employed in the vote? Is it necessary for yu to lie about this issue to back up your hatred and prejudice? that must be a sad world view to have, huh? one you have to lie to even try to uphold...

We can't help it the anti-gays were stupid enough to think we actually wouldn't push for marriage equality if the ban was defeated.

I meant the fact that he is young (27) and the fact he personally knows a gay person (his father-in-law) DOES have a very strong correlation with support for marriage equality.

That's how we're winning this- the more people who have openly gay friends & family & coworkers, the more they are likely to support marriage equality. The more support there is for equal rights the more likely people are to be openly gay. The more openly gay people there are, the more likely it is people will know someone in their family/friends/coworkers who are openly gay.

The cycle feeds on itself.

Thanks for making my point, which is that the pro-gay must resort to misinformation, coercion and deceit to gain ground.

I DON'T CARE how you see it.

That's what you don't understand- we will do ANYTHING to get equal rights. We will NEVER stop until we have full equality. Even if it takes 100 years, we will NEVER stop.

So you can boo-hoo about how we misled people all you want.

I DON'T CARE, as long as I get equal rights in the end.

yet you still have to show this deceit or coercion...

again, why so you have to lie to support your world view? do the facts not support it? perhaps you should change your world view, that would be the rational thing to do when reality tells you you are wrong...

For those keeping track-

We now have marriage bills pending in 4 states- MN, RI, IL, NJ, plus of course the California decision due in Jun.

The regular legislative session ends May 20th in MN, May 31st in IL, Jun 30th in RI, and TBD in NJ.

The Rhode Island Senate can wait until the SCOTUS ruling before voting.

The veto override vote in New Jersey will certainly be after their June primaries and the SCOTUS ruling.

Tick tock.......

"..we will do ANYTHING.."
That's my point. To you people, "anything" includes: misinformation, dishonesty and deceit.
Honesty is not a homosexual trait.
And you people want to get MARRIED?

you keep saying that, yet you can never point out any deceit or dishonesty or misinformation.

All of that stuff seems to be coming from you. and there certainly was plenty of it coming from your fellow bigots here in MN...

seems that is the only way you can support your lifestyle, huh?

sad...very sad.

You keep making that "three-year-old-throwing- a-tantrum" claim about deceit, yet I notice you ignored my direct question about what deceit you're talking about.

So I'll ask again. What deceit are you talking about? No one promised the gay community wouldn't push for marriage equality if their hate-based amendment failed.

Maybe, just maybe, just like the civil unions bit, if the haters and the fundies and the bigots had been satisfied with marriage equality simply being banned by statute and hadn't tried to double triple outlaw it with their now-failed amendment, just maybe the gay folks there wouldn't have felt emboldened enough to push it through the legislature.

Did ya ever think of that?? Hate backfires every time, dear. It may take a while, but it always does.

Face it, sister. You got nothin' but your own hate eating you alive. Does it feel good?

You may see it as "misinformation, dishonesty, and deceit"; that's your perogative.

I see it as doing whatever it takes to get equal rights.

Either way, nothing will stop us, so you'll just have to learn to live with it.

As I remember from my history classes, people such as George Washington, Pail Revere, and John Paul jones did ANYTHING, including taking up arms, and committing extreme violence, and killing, people representing the government at that time, to achieve EQUALITY.

Were they wrong to kill members of teh government to achieve what they wanted ? If they hadn't won, they would've been executed as terrorists and criminals.

But since they won, were they wrong to kill to achieve their aims ?

This is another one of my favorite questions for the haters and the bigots, "at what point do you expect is to quit fighting for equal rights?? What do you expect to happen that will ever make second class citizenship acceptable to us?"

They never have an answer. They don't think about their fight that much. They're too busy being consumed by hate and ignorance.
