Newtown Victims' Lawsuits Curbed By NRA-Backed Law

There are 19 comments on the www.huffingtonpost.com story from Dec 18, 2012, titled Newtown Victims' Lawsuits Curbed By NRA-Backed Law. In it, www.huffingtonpost.com reports that:

The massacre of schoolchildren in Connecticut may yield new laws to limit the availability of military-style assault weapons. But one thing the latest tragedy will likely not produce: lawsuits against the company that manufactured the gun used in the killings.

Under a controversial law Congress passed seven years ago at the urging of the National Rifle Association, gun manufacturers are explicitly shielded from lawsuits that would seek to hold them liable for crimes committed with weapons they sold.

You don't sue the car manufacturer after a drunk hits you. You don't sue the knife manufacturer when you get cut. Why should you be able to sue the gun manufacturer? The logic is so simple even a liberal should be able to understand it.

Cars & knives,(and golf cubs too) are not manufactured to commit mass murder.
Also, cars must be registered.

Ah, but there's the rub. Guns aren't manufactured to commit mass murder either. Mass murder is a result of a mental defect, not a gun.

Wrong.

The assault weapons are made for mass-murder; but also for little-dick loosers to attemot to 'compensate.'

Lets get to the real problem. It's not the firearms, they are just the tools,it's the unstable mental people.Do a back ground check and weed out the unstable.

After many years I rejoined the NRA today. I waited to see the NRAs stance on the issues at hand. Wish they would have offered a 4 yr membership.

Wrong, assault weapons are manufactured for the assault of a tactical enemy position or the defense of tactical friendly position. Nothing more, nothing less.

Our Military and Law enforcement officers do not appreciate your assumptions about their "junk", but stand ready to defend your worthless ass, with the very same weapon you demonize.

You fool, Lanza's assault weapon was manufactured "...the assault of a tactical enemy position or the defense of tactical friendly position..." which was a grade school full of little kids.

You are such a flaming asshole to even equate a school in Connecticut to an "enemy position." Well, the enemy were wiped out.

What is wrong with you, that you don't get that ?

And how can you think our police and military endorses the murder of children with assault weapons.

Just go to Hell.

Typical reactionary anti gun response. Twisting words and turning them around as for sympathy for your view. He was describing an assault weapon. He didn't equate an enemy position to school kids. It was the misuse and abuse of the weapon by the shooter/perpatrator of a heinous crime.
