“He has, acting personally and through his subordinates and agents, endeavored to . . . cause, in violation of the constitutional rights of citizens, income tax audits or other income tax investigations to be initiated or conducted in a discriminatory manner.”

— Article II, Section 1, Articles of Impeachment against Richard M. Nixon, adopted by the House Judiciary Committee, July 29, 1974

I personally think Obama is 10x worse than Nixon.

yeah, how dare he illegally audit someone. Nevermind that illegal wiretapping of all of America, indefinitely detain without charges, seize electronics within 100 miles of the border, assassinate US citizens; all without due process or judicial oversight.

Or is this only a problem cause Obama did it and everything else is sanctioned by both parties?

The rightwing propaganda machinery is in full swing with their usual hysterics trying to make political hay out of something they caused in the first place. It’s all happening as a result of the SCOTUS’s “Citizens United” decision, turning corporations into people and money into speech. Literally thousands of politically motivated groups sprouted up across the country, inspired by the t-bag party, applying for tax-exempt (501) status by claiming they are engaged in political research only. In fact, guess who was the first one to apply – you guessed it, none other than uber-troglodyte Karl Rove (Crossroads GPS). The IRS has a duty to investigate questionable applicants! The GOPer’s notion that the IRS would try to determine whether an organization is likely to be political without taking into account kind of the inherently political nature of the application is akin to tying your hands behind your back.

The IRS targeted anyone who opposed Obama, very Nixon like. I never knew that was part of Nixons impeachment crimes.
I guess like Nixon, sooner or later Obama's gonna have to come clean on all his "Crimes and Misdemeanors"

Ah, the IRS, doing what the IRS does best: being sort of hateful, targeting various groups it doesn’t like, adding pressure to groups it feels are some sort of threat, nailing little people from whom it feels it can suck some extra dollars. Nothing new there.
Except now, now the IRS overstepped even its own ignoble rules in targeting some dumber-than-thou conservative, we must get our Gov’t back, groups. Why didn’t they go after the likes of Carl Rove and the Koch Bros, you know, the really big fish that are clearly in violation of the tax-exempt status spending millions on political elections.
Then again, who doesn’t know the IRS targets specific demographics all the time? Who doesn’t know that this is essentially what the IRS does? Do you know how many (liberal, wonderful, not the slightest bit rich or threatening) friends I have who run small businesses that the IRS has decided to audit, for no other reason than it’s far easier to scrape a few bucks from 10,000 little guys than it is to go after one heavily armored, tax-exempt mega-corp?

Nixon did the same and was impeached for it.
Obama should've learned from Nixon's mistakes.

Remember what we were told when this explosive story first broke less than a week ago? The IRS official in charge of tax exemptions for organizations said the improper methods employed within her division were executed by "low level workers" in Cincinnati who weren't motivated by "political bias," and impacted roughly 75 organizations? Wrong, wrong and wrong:

"Low Level" - Officials within the highest echelons of the agency were aware of the inappropriate targeting, including the last two commissioners -- at least one of whom appears to have misled Congress on this very question. Now there are reports that Lerner herself sent at least one of the probing letters to an Ohio-based conservative group.

The director of the Internal Revenue Service division under fire for singling out conservative groups sent a 2012 letter under her name to one such group. The March 2012 letter was sent to the Ohio-based American Patriots Against Government Excess (American PAGE) under the name of Lois Lerner, the director of the Exempt Organizations Division...at the time of the letter, the group was in the midst of the application process for tax-exempt nonprofit status — a process that would stretch for nearly three years and involve queries for detailed information on its social media activity, its organizational set-up, bylaws, membership and interactions with political officials. The letter threatened to close American PAGE’s case file unless additional information was received within 60 days.

I've seen the comparisons before pointed out, and I do see a similar arrogance of "Bully Pulpit" thinking, as Teddy Roosevelt called it.

"If the President of the United States does it, it isn't illegal..." as Nixon himself said.

Recall that ABC News fueled the GOP cries of a White House cover-up when suggesting that the twelve drafts of the talking points were done with White House participation. Turns out the actual email, written in the days following the Benghazi attack, reveals something else entirely.
http://www.forbes.com/sites/rickungar/2013/05...
New Poll shows that 46% of Republicans think that Benghazi is the Biggest Political Scandal Ever. One interesting thing about the voters who think Benghazi is the biggest political scandal in American history is that 39% of them DON'T ACTUALLY KNOW WHERE IT IS!! 10% think it's in Egypt, 9% in Iran, 6% in Cuba, 5% in Syria, 4% in Iraq, and 1% each in North Korea with 4% not willing to venture a guess. Keep it up ye morons ...

Obama is a worthless POS. he acts like he a bystander to everything that's going on.
Using the IRS to target US citizens is wrong, having the IRS leak records of your presidential opponent is wrong.
The buck stops in the Oval Office, grow the f___ up Mr Obama and for once own up to your actions and the results that come from it.

Only because he resigned in disgrace ...
In 1972, as part of Nixon's re-election effort, a massive campaign of political spying and 'dirty tricks' was initiated against Democrats, leading to the Watergate break-in to plant bugs (tiny audio transmitters) inside the offices of the Democratic National Committee.
Perhaps the most notorious GOPer dirty trick was a letter planted in a New Hampshire newspaper alleging that leading Democratic presidential candidate, Senator Edmund Muskie of Maine, had referred to Americans of French-Canadian descent as "Canucks."
And let’s not forget the most disgusting slight of hand by any president’s executive action is Ford’s pardon of Nixon ...
