We don't need no dang regulations on the drug industry. If people don't want to sicken and
and die from from using tainted drugs, then they
shouldn't be gettin' sick in the first place.

If you cain't take responsibility fer yer own
life in the first place, then you ain't got no cause to complain about dirty drugs.

It's called free enterprise, fer cryin' out loud.

Dang socialists always stickin' their noses in business's business.

Go Republicans!

Isn't this putting beaurucrats in
between Americans and safe healthcare????Isn;t that why we hate Obama care?
This is EXACTLY the same thing in EVERY way.
The FDA, for all of it's bad points'( whatever they may be) hs done a petty ood job of caatching these things quickly, and now a Republican Congressional panel wants to step in between the FDA doing their job, and the safety of the AMerian people
What does the average congressman know about virurally infected medications?
Don't conservatives and Right wingers hate governmantal interference?

I'd rather be forced to buy insurance then take a Congressionally approved drug.

The way I read the article, the Republicans don't want to expand the regulatory authority of the FDA, until the FDA hands over documents about their current regulatory methodology. That actually makes sense. Why grant more power to an agency that essentually failed until we determine why they failed?

"Republicans on a congressional panel investigating a deadly meningitis outbreak linked to tainted drugs have told the top U.S. drug regulator not to expect new authority to prevent future problems [until the agency hands over documents about its role in the current crisis]."

[until the agency hands over documents about its role in the current crisis]

"We need these documents to identify any possible weaknesses in FDA's regulatory system that can be immediately corrected administratively or legislatively," said the letter, dated November 16 and addressed to FDA Commissioner Margaret Hamburg by four Republicans, "

It's the FDA that's playing the role of Enron here.

The point here is that we need to regulate the regulators (in this case the FDA) to make sure they're doing their job.
