Victory Fund Calls Out Barney Frank on Opposition to Gay GOP Candidate

Gay Massachusetts congressman Barney Frank opposes the election of gay Republican congressional candidate Richard Tisei from his state, but the Gay and Lesbian Victory Fund, which has endorsed Tisei, is speaking out on the importance of having out LGBT officials from both major parties.

Frank may believe that he will be 100% useless in the republican party, a contention which currently has merit.

How ANY minority can vote Republican is a mystery to me. The ReTugs are anti- woman, anti- LGBT anti anybody who isn't an old white male. I'm surprised that they haven't tried to pass laws that only property owners can vote.

We are humans and citizens first and while being gay is a major part of our identity we shouldn't be voting for someone just because who they sleep with, just the way we shouldn't be discriminated against just because who we sleep with. Barney Frank (as he usually is) is right.

I agree with Truth. I never liked the idea of clannishness. I have been exposed to it in both the gay community as an adult and in the Jewish community as a child. It is stupid and meaningless. Just because someone shares an affiliation or characteristic with you does not mean you have to be her/his best pal. VictoryFund is being narrow-minded and naive.

I think your trying to compare US politics to Canadian politics that would be like trying to compare apples to oranges Canadians tend to put there citizens first, this is something the united states are lagging behind and the republican parties is like a anchor dragging it along at too slow of a pace

As a gay man in the Massachusetts 6th, I will NOT be voting for the gay man on the ballot. John Tierney will do more for my rights and equality than Tisei can ever complish within the republican ranks. Tisei's first vote if elected would be to put Boehner etal in charge. That one vote would undermine anthing he could hope to do for gays and lesbians and the citizens of his district.

I can't understand the concept of a gay person running on the GOP platform, which has specific wording for the intent to deny that same GOP gay person basic civil rights.

Change from within is a good thing, but, right now, how would ANY gay person stand on that platform and ignore the plank that is right under their toes?

I am an American ex-pat and lived in the States for 52 years. My point is that elected gay officials are not necessarily the best to serve their constituencies simply by being gay; nor would I patronize gay-owned businesses simply because they are "gay-owned."

Exactly--it's the politician, not the orientation. The only way I could even imagine voting for a GOP gay man would be if he was defintly challenging his party--and I'm not seeing that here.

If all things are equal, I'll support a gay business over a non-gay business. But if it is a bad business, then forget it.

cpeter makes a good point. A gay republican will get gay or pro-gay votes if he is *REALLY LOUD* and really vocal about the fact that he will endlessly fight and challenge his party. Otherwise, most people (AND I DO MEAN MOST; think about it) see this as a waste and shrug and ignore it.

They care more about there money than everything else they have no relationship for fear that there partner might want something other than a relationship. the reason that they get caught up in scandals with rent boys is that they know what there paying for up front and there willing to sacrifice a life long commitment for there love of money
