NRA convention venue seeks OK for alcohol, weapons

May 5, 2009 | Posted by: Top Ex Ed | Full story: hosted.ap.org

Phoenix Convention Center officials want state officials to suspend their liquor license - but only in part of the building - so National Rifle Association conventioneers can carry and exhibit guns.

Arizona state law bars people from carrying weapons in venues where liquor is served.

I am not an NRA member but I don't recall them backing automatic weapon owners though that really wouldn't be a problem. Of the quarter of a million legally owned machineguns in the United States,if I remember correctly, only one was used in a crime and it was a government issued weapon used by a police officer.I believe it was a crime of passion.
I dropped my membership in the NRA because they were against curbing ownership of automatic weapons, using their usual mantra that "it's the beginning of taking everyones guns". I recieved a phone call from an NRA worker questioning why I let my NRA membership expire. I explained my reasons and was told they were sorry for losing my membership but didn't deny they were doing what I claimed.

To your last point, burglaries of occupied dwellings is much higher in England compared to the US. I'll let you guess why.
My guess is it's the same reason burgleries have been on the rise in the US. Drug addicts needing a fix, a breakdown of morals, an atmosphere where homelessness is rampant, fatherless kids, gangs, etc.

no, actually the reason Obama won was because he was such a smooth liar he was able to dupe alot of the REPs. yet to see him keep a campaign promise. in fact he is doing just the oposite.
yes he close GITMO, but then again, he isn't making any plans on the detainees except release them into the general public to rejoin AlQuida
psssst....Bush released over 600 Saudi terrorists from Gitmo. Of course, Bush supports the country that attacked us on 9/11 and that's why these prisoners are picked up by private jet and flown back to SA to be treated like heroes. They get a house a new car and money. George might as well just shoot our soldiers in the face. It would be less insulting than the way he has treated our attackers. I hope he contracts a painful disease and has to suffer years before dying only to be greeted in hell by his father, Lucifer.

I don't guess it could be because they had their gun confiscated by their liberal, pacifist government.

Wrong...All guns will never be taken away. No gun control advocate has ever stated that. If the govt was unanimously for that, it would take a hundred years to even get close to accomplishing that. The govt wanted all gold coins to be turned into the govt with fines for anyone that didn't comply. That was around the late 1800's. There are still 10's of thousands of gold coins around.
There are plenty of quotes by some of our favorite liberals to prove you wrong. Statements made by such geniuses as Feinstein, B & H Clinton, Ted Kennedy, Schumer, Jim and Sarah and many more. I would look them up for you but I just don't have the time to waste trying to prove something to someone who has a mental block when it does not support what they want to believe.

Might as well kill two birds with the same stone.

No other nation on the planet has as many gun-related homicides and mass murders, workplace, schoolhouse and college campus shootings, armed robberies, accidental shootings by children who "discovered" their parents' weapons, family realated homicides (husbands or wifes slaughtering their entire family, then turning the gun on themselves), road rage shootings, nightclub and concert shootings, etc. as the good old USA.

To quote a not-so-great poster, "I'll let you guess why."

P.S. Anyone who picks a firearm name as a screen name is a ticking time-bomb and needs to be monitored very, very closely - in my opinion.

I don't deny these libs said what you claim. There's screwballs on both sides of the aisle. Firearms will always exist in the US. Pro gun posters on this thread should tell you that attempting to eliminate all firearms in the country would be futile and many in the govt know it. I think background checks, eliminating "true" automatic weapons and criminalizing underground gun sales is a good idea.

This is why the republican party is so out of touch with real Americans and losing members by the boatload.

They consider "pacifist" an insult.

Remember what I said about brains before guns? Thats TRUE power and courage, not a bald eagle sticker on the back of your truck and a "war is cool" attitude.

Every year in America more people die from automobile accidents than by firearms. In fact, more people die from heart disease than by firearms. So, rather than outlawing firearms you need to start thinking about outlawing cars and fat people. Oh, and one last point, labeling a person a ticking time-bomb because of their screen name is a firearm is as dumb as labeling a person a queer assrapist because they choose the word “dapper” in their screen name…… in my opinion.
Silly argument....laughably stupid in fact!

Cars are not specifically (designed) intended fo the expressed purpose of harming or killing another human being (or animal).

Heart disease is just that - a disease. I've never heard of anyone attacking or killing another person with a bottle of "heart disease".

"Dapper", for the simple minded among you, simply means well dressed, well groomed, exhibiting good hygiene - showered, shaved, teeth brushed, etc. Are you saying you go around smelling like a sewer rat, with yellow, rotting teeth, dressed like a slob, with dirty matted hair, dragging your knuckles on the ground, etc., in order to prove you're a real "he-man"?

You're girfriend/wife must really dread being seen in public with you, and must truly wish she could avoid any and all "romantic moments" she has to endure sharing with you.

The lengths you gun-hugging nutbags will go to in your idiotic efforts to prove your masculinity. I bet you pick a lot of fights in bars too - makes you feel quite manly, huh?

Are you going to pistol-whip the next well-dressed man you encounter?

Oh man I am really worried now. Please come and get my guns.

Well, I don't know where the hell "Penna" is but in NM you can use semi-auto rifles to hunt big game. Since you admit to not having ever owned, fired or examined an AK47 in the future you may want to do a little research before you go shooting your mouth off about 600 people being murdered in Chicago from automatic firearms. You claim to be a responsible firearm owner then start acting like one.
If you have the sense of a 3rd grader you'd know Penna is an abbreviation for Pennsylvania. I don't understand how you lame brained idiots have enough sense to turn on a computer but lack enough sense to get out of the rain.
Semi automatic guns are illegal for deer and bear hunting in Pennsylvania.(it's the state between Ohio and New Jersey numb nuts)
As for shooting my mouth off, you should go back and read a few of your own lame brained posts. If acting like a responsible gun owner requires spewing garbage at anyone that disagrees with the NRA, I'll pass.

I don't pretend to "know" what Mr. Franklin's view of weapons ownership would be if he were living in this present day and age. However, I'd bet big piles of money he would wisely conclude, after surveying the landscape, that the thinking of the founding fathers', and his as well, would require some "tweaking" in the current environment.

You're not using the same modes of communication, using the same lighting, using the same heating and cooling methods, using the same mode of transportation, using the same writing utensils, wearing the same kind of clothing Ben Franklin used, are you?

Hell, you're not even watching the same type of televison, using the same kind of lawnmower, driving a similarly equipped vehicle your grand father used.

Yet you want to apply 18th century thinking to modern day society.

Furthermore, no one is suggesting your gun fetish "liberty" be taken from you. We rational people simply don't believe you and your ilk should be allowed to stockpile any and all kinds of weapons and munitions you "imagine" you need to "protect yourself from invading armies and terrorists".

Have a nice day, and give my regards to Ben.

You're quote is incredibly misplaced. By stating that as a response you are admitting that giving up guns WOULD in fact increase our safety, but that you won't anyways because you don't want to give up your liberty to own guns.

The second amendment was not just so we could equip a militia to protect ourselves from foreign forces but also to defend the constitution, our liberty and freedom from our own tyrannical government if necessary. That's as true today as it was in the 18th century and only those who are willing to give up these rights can disagree that it could never happen.

I made this exact same argument when the country went nuts after 9/11 and dropped hundreds of billions into reshaping our lives and starting needless wars. Fewer Americans have been killed by terrorism than by choking on chicken bones.

So lets make a deal. You agree that Iraq, Afghanistan, the TSA, and the DHS are phenomenal wastes of time and money (by your own "how many people has it killed" logic) and I'll agree that gun control is a waste as well.

Cheers.
