No one wants to prevent you from sleeping with and fondling your pistols, rifles and shotguns.
We just want to place some kind of rational limit on the kind of firepower made available to anyone and everyone who happens to have a clean record. YOu can keep the 174 high-power rifles you "supposedly" have for rabbit hunting and the 264 pistols you think you need to protect your two bedroom apartment.
We just don't think it's a good idea to allow mentally unstable people like you to be able to acquire storehouses of assault rifles, hand grenades, bazookas, bomb-making materials, body armor, ammuntion and such.
After reading your deranged rant I'm more convinced than ever you pose a serious threat to your neighbors and anyone else who happens to encounters you in the street, mall, grocery store, church or workplace.
You can go snuggle up with your guns now, and try not to threaten or harm anyone you see who happens not to be sporting a NRA armpatch.
Have a nice day.
hey dipshltdave, people can't get those weapons now because of current gun laws. what would more laws do???? and by whose standard to determine someone mentally ill? the basis you are using to call someone mentally ill is a load of crap.

Did you know Chicago had 600 deaths due to automatic weapons?? For your information, I own guns, hunt, have a permit to carry a concealed weapon and have a loaded 22 mag under the seat of my vehicle. I don't condone some of the whacko gunnies that mess with teflon coated slugs, mercury loaded into hollow points or automatic weapons that spew a hundred rounds/minute. In your twisted mind, that goes against peoples freedoms. I carry that 22 mag to protect myself from clowns like yourself that I suspect would exhibit roadrage if someone pulled out in front of you.
where did you get the figure of 600 automatic gun deaths???? i haven't been able to find that anywhere.

also were these gang related or legally owned automatic weapons? if illegally owned or gang related it is irrelevant. automatic guns are all but banned in Chicago anyways, so doubt they were legal to begin with.

where these true automatic weapons or semi-auto weapons? we all know that during the Clinton assault weapon ban, the liberal liars were calling semi-auto guns automatic assualt weapons, WHICH THEY ARE NOT!!!!!!

I don't know why you purposely make your posts hard on the eyes.
Most Americans don't own guns for personal protection. I don't need a credible source to make that claim, it's just common freaking sense. If you want to live in a fantasy world where everyone is packing (hence my wild west comment) then be my guest.
As far as my "duty" to protect my life at a moment's notice, I accept the fact that the odds of me ever needing a concealed handgun are far less than the odds that the possession will just lead to harm. Believe it or not, most bad guys, if you encounter them, just want your stuff, and I'm not going to shoot someone to death to protect my credit cards and a few 20 dollar bills.
I'm not against guns. I own a ranch in Texas with many guns - shotguns, deer rifles, a glock .9, a .357 Mag revolver...with any luck soon I'll have3 a .223 M4...I love sport shooting. My mother's job involves her going to backwoods west Texas towns at 2am so she has her concealed license and carries for damn good reason.
Most of us don't need to carry concealed weapons, and if we did, there would probably a lot more harm than good coming of it.
what kind of harm would come of carrying a gun that is more likely to happen than something bad happening with one?

thousands carry a gun everyday. many use them to protect themselves. very few of them have something bad happen because they are carrying a gun, but there are alot of people that have crimes committed against them because they didn't have a gun.

What you posted is true. It's the result of our politicians not doing what we elected them to do. Isn't checking the background of gun purchasers a good idea?? Keeping automatic weapons out of the hands of gun dealers isn't tramping on peoples freedoms in my opinion. They should only be in the hands of the military and possibly law enforcement. Do you think the status quo is working to resolve any of the problems you mention??
All the problems you mention could be resolved with a few strict laws and the enforcement of them. Selling an illegal firearm is automatic death penalty, with 6 months to appeal. Illegal gang activity now is a minimum 10 year jail term. Prisons are where gang members gather, continue illegal activity and get out hardcore thugs. Let's make that 10 year sentence hard labor, living in a tent, maintaining wilderness areas, road work, hand digging irrigation ditches, etc. A second offense doubles the sentence.
Oh, I suppose the gun huggers would be against that as it takes away peoples rights.
actually it is OBAMA that would be against that. he voted against stricter sentences for gun violence by gang members. he said he voted against it because it "targetted blacks".

There is a continuum of dangerous instruments. I suppose on one end would be dynamite, TNT, plastique, det cord and nitroglycerin, and on the other would be twine or wire (garrote), plastic bag (suffocation; see video game Manhunt), pen or pencil (stabbing). In between are machine guns and .22 single-shot rifles. Interestingly, perhaps the most dangerous available firearm is a single- or double-shot shotgun and a hacksaw. In less than five minutes, a long, hard-to-conceal shotgun can be cut down to pistol size. To do so is to commit a twenty-years-in-the-penitentia ry felony, but it is physically possible.

What to do: ban single-shot shotguns and hacksaws? Sounds silly, doesn't it? But this is the state of firearms laws today. No one would argue that Wal-Mart should NOT sell cases of 100 sticks of Hercules dynamite to any Tom, Dick, or Harry. No one would argue that Wal-Mart should NOT sell trash bags (suffocation tool), twine or wire (garrote tools), or pens and pencils (stabbing tools).

Why not make criminal penalties for crimes committed with firearms more severe. Institute "kin liability," a legal technique invented by Heinrich Himmler, whereby family members are executed or imprisoned along with the criminal. That might get some folks' attention. It worked like a charm in Nazi Germany right before Hitler had to put a .32 bullet in his brain as he was chomping down on a sodium cyanide capsule provided him by the SS doctors.

There are so many options. I am beginning to lean toward banning twine, wire, pens, pencils, and plastic trash bags. Did I mention steak and hunting knives also?

If you were a true gun proponent as I am, you would be in FAVOR of ensuring that guns are only possessed by the most responsible and respectful adults. EG, the strictest standards on who gets to legally possess them and the strictest punishments for those who use them illegally.

Wrong...All guns will never be taken away. No gun control advocate has ever stated that. If the govt was unanimously for that, it would take a hundred years to even get close to accomplishing that. The govt wanted all gold coins to be turned into the govt with fines for anyone that didn't comply. That was around the late 1800's. There are still 10's of thousands of gold coins around.

what are you talking about "supply and demand"??? the guns being used in Mexico ARE NOT AVAILABLE to the american public!!!! no supply and demand about it. unless you have a FED FIREARMS LISCENSE you can't buy one of the guns being used down there. in face you can't by any automatic weapon in the US unless it was made before, i think, 1986.
supply and demend doesn't even start to play a part here.
I don't think you understand what I was saying. The supply of weapons the liberals like to call assault weapons is in short demand to the US public because the demand is high. In other words there are a lot of them being sold. This has nothing to do with full auto weapons being used in Mexico. A big percentage of those are coming from the US government, not from US gun owners. They have been given to the Mexican government along with billions of dollars with the intent that they would be used to fight the drug cartels and crime. Somehow, and I can't imagine it being because of corruption, the cartels and criminals are getting a big portion of these weapons.

Anyone who meets the ATF's qualifications may obtain an NFA firearm. The NFA regulates weapons such as any gun which can fire more than one round per trigger pull, sound suppressors, short barreled rifles and shotguns and destructive devices. Most states allow NFA weapons with an extensive background check, signature from county sheriff or city chief of police, a recent color photo, finger prints, and a $200.00 transfer fee (which was about the equivalent to five months' salary in 1934 when the NFA was passed).

No need to preach to me. I am in favor of the Death Penalty for all gang bangers and repeat offenders. They are a drain on the taxpayers, and only cause more problems.

In the perfect world, certain firearms would only be in the hands of our military, but I have to tell you....it is already too late. It has been too late. There isn't a gang out there that hasn't out armed our law enforcement. Even the Cops are restricted with their fire power, and now obama is cutting their budget even more. Suspicious, isn't it? Did you hear that he also cut port security? Why would he do that?

Americans are pretty smart people. They know a rat when they smell one.

I don't have a problem with background checks, but honestly, I wish they were half as concerned with the known illegal immigrants in this country. They are causing more chaos than all gun owners combined.

You know what is really scary? We have illegals and gang members in our military. There was even gang graffiti in Iraq. These guys come home and use military tactics on our cops. We are turning into Mexico.

A lot of people need to get a grip. America has more people in prison per capita than any country in the world, including Iran and North Korea. Yep, the USA is already the toughest country in the world on its own people. No, we don't have gas chambers for crowds of people, yet. I know some on here loved the way the Nazi Germans took care of criminals.

How many more do you want in prison? We have two million right now. How about fifty million? Maybe one hundred million? How about half of us in prison and the other half working as guards. Maybe we could just build an entire prison state in the US.

Now on guns, everyone here with any sense knows that assault weapons are virtually never used in street crime. They are awful hard to conceal in a pocket. They are very expensive. For most thugs, a good high-capacity 9mm (Beretta 92 for example) is about as expensive and big as they want or need.

Everyone here needs to know how they handle guns in Scandinavia in Europe. No pistols allowed. Long guns have to be checked out of the local police station to go hunting or target shooting. Self-defense is not allowed.

Self-defense is not allowed because in Europe ONLY THE GOVERNMENT HAS THE RIGHT TO KILL A HUMAN BEING. Yep, private citizens are not allowed to become a government unto themselves. Well, I guess if they could overthrow the government, then and only then could they gain the legitimate use of violence.

The conservatives on here who love a powerful military ought to appreciate the "monopoly on violence" held by modern states.

I think we agree more than we disagree. The countries leaders have been asleep at the switch while crime and violence prevailed. Some drastic steps need to be taken to put us back on track. I don't think it will happen though as I don't see anyone in authority that has the guts to resolve these problems.
