Ownership was not required.
Since we have MSNBC and Fox to speak for us, we also don't need an individual right to speech, so let's do away with the 1st amendment as well.
Actually most states DID require every able bodied man to own a gun and be proficient at using it.

Hmmm, notice how that "right" never had anything to do with women, who often couldn't buy a gun without their husband's permission.

You really can't be that dum, I hope. It's spelled out in the dictionary. I could find anything that said animals have to have a weapon for hunting to be a sport. Help me out hear and show me some proof, I'm not as dum as you. Hunting doesn't mean killing.
Lets say I was hunting for Arrowheads and a Bear tried to attack me. Should I kill it, hit it with a stick on the nose, or put pepper spray on it. I personnaly would shoot it for attepted murder.
Okay, to make it clear for you because you're obviously too stupid to understan on your own-

If you use a gun to kill an animal, it's NOT a sport; it's just killing an animal. A sport is a competition; killing something which is unarmed isn't a competition.

Just as Lanza wasn't participating in a sport when he was killing children.

About as hard as it is for you too understand that hunting is a sport.
Only if the animals are armed, otherwise it's just killing.

Why would I turn in only 5 of my guns?
Why would I turn in ANY of my guns?

It's not illegal in Michigan to own the guns I have. If it ever does become illegal, then I'll move to another state.

Which is why the people needed to be able to own guns. Since we no longer need a state militia, the need for individual ownership of guns is no longer needed.
Now it's up to the states to decide what guns to allow or ban.

Yes, I'm married to by husband of 26+ years. How hard is that to understand?
That's not possible since it's only been "legal" for a couple years.

Really?

Gee, then why does every state in the nation have some form of gun restrictions?

There is no individual right to own a gun, otherwise convicted criminals would be able to take a machine gun to prison with them.

That's because you're an idiot who doesn't understand WHY a right to own a gun was put in the constitituion.

It was to ensure the states could raise a militia of able bodied men if necessary.

That's why that "right" didn't extend to women- they weren't required to serve in a militia like men were.

Of course it's possible, since marriage doesn't require govt approval.

But if it helps you understand, I've been legally married for 5 years to my husband of 26+ years.

Better?

Our military is having trouble beating back cave men in Iraq, and Afghanistan. I doubt they can push back a hundred million gun owners with 160,000,000 guns.

Maybe so. But we are rotting out from within. Change without foundation is suicide. And our differences seem hell bent on committing genocide to the greatest nation in history.

There was a time when a felony prisoner was given a $20 gold coin a new suit of clothes and a rifle upon being released from prison . Being a felon in no way removes your status as citizen . Though some states will not allow a felon to vote . Once you have done your time your full rights should be restored .States can take away your rights simply because the Supreme Court can only become involved when Congress tells them to . The supreme Court has no right or duty to become involved with law on their own . Its a sham justice system .

More than that is what you became a felon for. We have thousands of laws now that turn everyone into criminals and no shortage of people willing to enforce, judge and incarcerate.

"Like most rights, the Second Amendment right is not unlimited. It is not a right to keep and carry any weapon whatsoever in any manner whatsoever and for whatever purpose: For example, concealed weapons prohibitions have been upheld under the Amendment or state analogues. The Court’s opinion should not be taken to cast doubt on longstanding prohibitions on the possession of firearms by felons and the mentally ill, or laws forbidding the carrying of firearms in sensitive places such as schools and government buildings, or laws imposing conditions and qualifications on the commercial sale of arms.[United States v.] Miller’s holding that the sorts of weapons protected are those “in common use at the time” finds support in the historical tradition of prohibiting the carrying of dangerous and unusual weapons."
