Dec 6, 2012 Full story: Reuters 13

With a week left to act, agricultural leaders in Congress are still deadlocked on two major issues for a new U.S. farm bill, cuts in crop subsidies and reductions in food stamps, said two of the four key negotiators on Thursday.

If we did not have price controls on food like we dod milk would be $10 a gallon and bread would be also ten bucks a loaf and all your food would cost 100-200 % more then it does now...Hows that sound?? Should we let farmers control prices like big oil does..JACK IT UP AND RAPE THE PEOPLE OVER THE COALS???????

We'd have more repub postings on this story if the title was "Pres Obama Sneezes While Putting On Shoes This Morning"

But a story about the Feds and Americans paying cash gifts and food stamps to older white male farmers who could get a job at the plant and work for every dime they ever see....and very few repub posters

I know we do farm subsidies for a reason. For the good of us all. But lets alteast acknowledge how much money we GIVE to older, white, men and the foodstamps they request...and not just the young mom working long hours, taking care of kids, sending them to school with full stomachs...that just happens to live in a urban environment.

But, what about our fiercely independent,
government-hating, super-conservative
Republican farmers? Will they have
to make do without their yearly federal
farm subsidies?

A black day in agricultural America, indeed.

Collective farming isn't a bad idea.

It works well in Israel.. They call them kibbutzim.
There's around 250 of them.

Of course, Israel is a very socialistic nation.

Might not work here.

I know that but 80% of the money in the farm bill goes to pay for food stamps it should be called the food stamp bill..

Then agricultural states would not get as much money. Everybody loves farmers, not so many love welfare. It's all in the semantics. This comes from those few 'farmers' getting millions of dollars in free government money. The money rarely goes to people who actually work on the farm. It goes to "corporate" farms. The guy who has calluses on his hands and works dawn to dark gets very little. It truly is welfare for the rich farmer. You are right, those that don't actually work for a living get the lions share, farmer or not.

Liberals can't call it what it is. The children would know the truth.

The reason farm subsidies do not go away is, many in congress have small plots of land and they claim the subsidy, just like real farmers.
