Thanks. I think it pretty much describes Americans in general.

Pretty much. Most don't realize how little power they truly have in this supposedly "Democratic process."

Topix is a poor substitute, but it's a place to vent frustrations about government.

No, the point was that just because it didn't kill you today doesn't mean it's safe or not going to kill you later.
I don't consider killing 3-4 million people per year to be "fun".
One would think you'd be ecstatic over it. 3.5 million fewer drivers each year. At that rate, fossil fuel use in this country will come to an end in just 100 years.

That's why it sucks that the government has allowed southern CA to be so crowded. Driving on the freeways with so much gridlock can't be too healthy.
Who the HELL is the government to DISALLOW anybody to not live or drive where they choose????
You better rethink your name, "Freebird."
FREE has meaning! Think about that.

And I'm for freedom, having government tax your smoking then turn around and forbid you to smoke anywhere but in your home is far worse.
From someone who, as a child, had to contend with two smoking parents, I would be the first to say that smoking, even in the home, should be outlawed IF another member of that household is under age, or doesn't want to inhale the nasty crap. Smokers can build themselves a seperate room with no ventilation and have at it.

When your "freedom" doesn't infringe on the rights & freedoms of others, then I agree with you.
But when your "freedom" to use fossil fuels contributes directly & indirectly to the deaths of 3-4 million people per year, then the rest of us have every right to restrict that.
Ditto for smoking in public places.
You have a "right" to restrict my driving? Prove it. If your car uses gas, then you need to stay home too. BTW, how did you say your home, and almost everything in it, was built?

What about our "God-given" right? That is our right to use what God has given us- like oil?

Of course most birds are quite intelligent, which is why the majority avoid the wind turbines. It's only the stupid ones who fly right into it; just like the dumb ones that fly into my window on occasion.
Glass is something that's not found anywhere in nature. Why is it "dumb" that a bird who sees the reflection of the sky, trees and other flying birds in your window would assume he can fly that way too?

What's dumb is the humans who know this happens, but does nothing to stop it.

Yes, I'm sure the millions of birds all flew into the few wind turbines by Corpus. They must be piled up about a mile deep!
Oh yeah, that must be it......
Birds do wash up along the coast now and then. Some also get eaten by fish and other scavengers. We'll never know how many birds are lost during migration, or what caused their deaths. Sometimes it's just sheer exhaustion and they can't make it to land, especially when they get caught in Gulf storms. It is an eighteen hour flight over water and the weather can change quickly out there.

Birds often stop and rest on oil platforms. Some of these platforms have scientists on them who study birds. God, that would be a cool job!!

I don't claim that Corpus Christie wind farm has killed all the birds. But it certainly IS a TERRIBLE place for a wind farm!!! The Texas Gulf Coast is world famous for bird migration. All those turbines (with lighting) is sure to attract even more birds than already pass through that area.

They why are they flying at night if they're that blind? How is it most of them can avoid hitting the millions of trees & buildings but can't see a giant wind turbine?
No, an appropriate analogy would a human running at night without a flashlight or other light source.
Since you won't open my links Google 'Fatal Light Awareness Program.' FLAP
As you will see, birds do hit tall buildings- LOTS of birds.

They fly at night mainly because it is cooler. Imagine running several hundred miles at top speed almost every night until you reach Equador, Columbia or Costa Rica- you might get a little over-heated.

They also fly at night because there are fewer arial predators. Hawks do not fly at night.

They use the stars to navigate. They don't need alot of light. They just go. God made them that way- don't ask me why. They fly well above tree level. That could be why they don't slam into trees. But skyscrapers and towers are tall enough to be in their path. That's the problem.

During the day, they rest and feed.

Well that leaves you with solar, because certainly NO fossil fuel can meet your criteria.
I prefer nuclear. It is the cleanest energy form we have. All we need to do is figure out a way to dispose of or reuse the waste.

Hmmm you really don't know what is going on in he real world. Your task is to find the DNA research completed on that feathered friend of ours and do tell all what you find.
