53% of Recent College Grads Are Jobless or Underemployed

There are 53 comments on the www.theatlantic.com story from Apr 24, 2012, titled 53% of Recent College Grads Are Jobless or Underemployed. In it, www.theatlantic.com reports that:

A college diploma isn't worth what it used to be. To get hired, grads today need hard skills.

More than half of America's recent college graduates are either unemployed or working in a job that doesn't require a bachelor's degree, the Associated Press reported this weekend. The story would seem to be more evidence that, regardless of your education, the wake of the Great Recession has been a terrible time to be young and hunting for work.

OK, kiddies...here's the reality of college.

1. It is a money-making venture for schools and banks

2. It does not guarantee you a job

3. There are too many people with college degrees, and that devalues those degrees

4. Most degrees are in business. There ain't that much business going on these days.

5. Companies are top-heavy with management right now. Business models change and this idea of micro-managing will go away, leaving lots of little middle managers unemployed.

If you are going to college to BE something, that's different. If you want to be a doctor, lawyer, nurse, engineer, architect, etc, go for it. If you're just going to college to get a piece of paper because you think it will get you a six-figure salary forget it.

Your best bet is technical training. ANYTHING that involves using your hands can't be outsourced. No, it's usually not sitting behind a desk shuffling papers, but if you get a skill that few people have you will be in demand and can set your own price. Just try to hire a plumber or electrician and see how much it costs.

GW Bush so damaged our economy that it would take a few decades to recover. You, Bush voter are responsible, not President Obama.

That the GOP in Congress, and the filibuster GOP Senate have resolved to do nothing while Obama is president reveals that these do-nothing GOP legislators, and not Obama should be blown from office.

After all, the GOP solution for our economic woes is 'more of the same.'

With 150 Million Americans on some sort of public aid, it's obvious the Commie Democrat concepts of education in America have failed. They are paying people with diminished capacities to attend college instead of teaching them how to work. College graduates have less education than eleventh graders had forty years ago, all because of Commie Democrats having diminished capacities also... A self sustaining system of giving free money and diminished education to drug users and sloths to maintain enough voters to keep a ponzi scheme system of freeloaders voting to keep Commies in office.

But I'll bet most college deans making big time salaries at tuition expense and bank loan officers encouraging student debt are Republicans.

You'd lose that bet. Communists have very effectively taken over almost all of the Universities in America. A person can't even be approved to be a veterinarian if they aren't capable of passing a Communist questionnaire.

B.S.

Stop listening to Fux Noise.

Only 8% of Americans receive public assistance in the form of welfare or food stamps, etc.

That's just over 24 million, NOT 150 million.

Mello Roll or Mell-O-Roll ("Up your hole with a Mello Roll!")

Mello rolls (also sometimes spelled “mello-rolls” or “mell-o-rolls,” perhaps like “jell-o") were ice cream treats, somewhat like ice cream cones. They were popular in the Bronx and in Brooklyn; many people remember them served at Jones Beach in the 1940s and 1950s.

The television show Welcome Back, Kotter (1975-1979) was based on comedian Gabriel Kaplan’s life, as expressed in his comedy album Holes and Mello-Rolls. One joke line on the tv show—“Up your nose with a rubber hose!”—was originally recalled by Kaplan as “"Up your hole with a mello roll!”

Now go find one and LICK yer Dumb ASS OFF!....LOL!

Very informative, that you don't mention the millions faking the SSI system with "I'm bipolar" routines, like yourself.

I challenge you to investigate the questionnaires and verbal interviews necessary for a vet to graduate. They are not oriented to whether, or how effectively a vet can service animals, but to how a vet interacts with society.

Yes. Mean, as in the greedy meaning, yes.

Bush did tremendous damage to our economy. You cannot hoestly deny that GW Bush did deep structural damage.

One of the acts President Obama was criticized for by the GOP for saving the American Auto industry by floating loans to GM & helping Chrysler too.

Yet, it worked. That is the reality. Bush has us in a death spiral. You can face it, or lie to yourself, but that is real.

It is the duty of the Congress to make a budget. This Congress would pay no attention to this Preesident's budget proposal, would it; really?
