Presidents often struggle in first debates

There are 440 comments on the USA Today story from Oct 2, 2012, titled Presidents often struggle in first debates. In it, USA Today reports that:

When President Obama steps onto the debate stage Wednesday night in Denver, he'll seek to avoid what might be called "incumbents opening debate syndrome." Presidents seeking re-election have often struggled in their first debates: Jimmy Carter, Ronald Reagan, George H.W. Bush, and George W. Bush.

Because polls are sampling fewer and fewer Republicans?

Notice the 'new' Pew poll... over-samples Democrats and STILL shows Romney +4.

btw, the Pew poll isn't included on your site.

Oh did Glenn Beck say that two. I heard it from the source that has been delving into all election funding since 2008.

Taking money from foreign countries for campaigns is illegal......but when did Obama and Axelrod care about laws......their from Chicago.

News from the Votemaster
National Pew Poll: Romney Leads 49% to 45%

In a stunning reversal from a month ago, in Pew Research's poll of likely voters, Mitt Romney now leads President Obama by 4 points. In September, Obama led by 9 points. Other polls have shown that Romney got a bump from the first debate, but most of them showed Obama still holding a narrow lead. The poll was conducted Oct. 4-7, entirely after the debate.

However, a close look at the internals of the poll turns up something odd. In the October sample, 31% of the respondents self identified as Democrats (vs. 39% in September). Similar, there were 36% Republicans in October (vs. 29% in September). While many people believe Romney "won" the debate, it is extremely unlikely that 21% of the nation's Democrats changed parties as a result of one debate. So there is a fair chance that the Pew poll is an outlier that UNDERSAMPLED DEMOCRATS AND OVERSAMPLED REPUBLICANS.

So what were you saying about oversampling Democrats again?

This is one of your best tries at spin. I will give you that.

hmmmmmm well lets look at todays poll by Gallup, that shows Romney 48 and Obama 46.......that looks close, however until you find they oversampled democrats by 9%. Common sense says these polls have been moving for a long time toward Romney, and the Debate made them come out with corrections to save face and credibility. Sane people just don't change their minds five of six times in six months.

I say,'welcome the the squishy world of polling'.

For the 36/31 percents in question, the question asked by Pew that gives that answer is, "ASK ALL: PARTY In politics TODAY, do you consider yourself a Republican, Democrat, or independent?"

http://www.people-press.org/files/legacy-pdf/...

It's not asking about actual party registration, but rather peoples attitude in that moment, which are quite different.

Nonetheless, that Huffpo site says D+4.

I can't say. I don't get satellite or cable TV, so I can't watch Fox News. And I caught Limbaugh for about an hour the other day when I was messing with an old Thomas replica vintage radio that gets AM, and that's probably only the second time this year that I've heard Limbaugh's voice.

But if that is what you consider "average", I'd have to say no, we're nothing like you leftists.

Maybe Romney can ask the President what kind of flowers he sends Mich, and where they go for $1,000,000. dates, what color Volt he is looking at since he wants one when he goes home to Chi town. You know the hard questions. He ccannot answer the others.

Well to be fair, not the doctored polls they were posting with the liberal oversampling and using registared voters knowing that using likely voters would make the numbers look worse for Obama.

R 49% O 44%, America has woke up.........will the MSM or sink further into the septic tank

Campaign tries to quell panic..........DC runs out of malox.....coke and valum through the roof

Dems frustrated by 'Big Bird' turn... Dems pray for hope........Obama gives them the bird.
