WASHINGTON (AP)— Facing a fresh deadline, House Speaker John Boehner said Thursday that Republicans would vote to extend the government's ability to borrow money for six weeks — but only if President Barack Obama first agrees to fresh negotiations on spending cuts. Under the Republican plan, the partial government shutdown would continue in the meantime.
Will John Boehner really get away with extortion?
As it turned out, The President refused to cave to the extortionists, represented of course by John Boehner, who walked away from the press after the meeting. Mr. Boehner had indicated that it is unclear what he would actually “put on the table or take off the table.” He wanted to buy time to advance his array of demands in return for releasing the government hostages. It seems unlikely that he would honor such a deal even if it were accepted, since he’d only demand one thing after another until he got everything he wants without compromise.

What would have happened is, he would have kept the tea's happy by keeping gov't closed, then he would have walked in and heaped the bargaining table with ridiculous demands and dared the President to walk away. The The speaker would have cried in front of the cameras ."I met him half way".

I recently predicted a quick flameout for Ted Cruz. He's already down to a flicker. The better we know him, the more we hate him.

I swear a democrat will lie, and the next one will swear to it. Vice President Cheney accidentally shot a life long friend. It was not a serious wound, and they still go hunting together. In fact he wrote a book, (can you read) where he reiterated the event, and made a big joke out of it. No wonder you people are so stupid. You make things up, and pretend it is all true.

I believe my question is properly framed as “Will the President cave to the extortionists to get them to release the hostages — those programs and employees that are the victims of the Republicans’ government shutdown about which Michelle Bachmann and others have been cheering ecstatically. The risk involved in caving to extortionists is that they will keep returning with new lists of demands while continuing to keep the hostages and even take more.
Their list of demands? They want privatization of Social Security, ending Medicare as we know it, slashing Medicaid funding, eliminating the EPA and the Department of Energy, abolishing the concept of the minimum wage, more tax breaks for the rich and large corporations, and ultimately move this country into an oligarchic form of society in which billionaires completely control the economic and political life of this nation.
Follow the money.
Oh you are soooooooooooo right! Silly me! And the Democrats don't want anything, right?
Just control over people that will become dependent voters.
Liberals don't want freedoms. They want control over people and the best way to do it is by GIVING them everything and not requiring them to do anything for it.
Bravo on being progressive.

Of course I believe I’m right, just as you believe you’re right.

While I do believe that socialistic programs offer an effective and cost-efficient infrastructure to insure that no American will have to go without life’s essentials such as food, shelter, medical care, etc., I’m not motivated by any to gain control of people in order to make them dependent voters. I believe it’s insulting to voters to imply such dark motivation. We have elected to have our socialistic programs because they offer us security. That does not make voters slaves, addicts or “sheep” being herded by Carl Marx, or other such hyperbole.

If Bush, or Cheney had done anything like the Tribal King I assure you Pelosi would have impeached them. As it is all she can do is try to make excuses for Obama, and his henchmen. She was trying to our run the reporters this morning, being questioned about the shutdown. She was so funny. She had no answers.
?? You mean Pelosi would have impeached bush???? Then why did she tell the world that impeachment was off the table, even before she became speaker of the house? Since there was more evidence for impeachment than any president ever, and Pelosi refused to act, even modestly, she is complicit in his crimes and should go to prison with him. Pelosi told bush he could break whatever laws he wanted and there would never be any accusations, nor investigations. She kept her word, and should have changed her political affiliation to republican.

Pelosi told the world Impeachment was off the table, because she had nothing it Impeach him for. She hates Bush. She couldn't wait to impeach him if she had reason. She is a vindictive bitch, and she would impeach him this very day if she had any way of doing it.

Nothing to impeach bush? What world are you in? Do you really think the hundreds of crimes are perfectly allowable for a president? Do you really think the president is above the law?

Besides, remember Clinton? There was nothing to impeach him for, but they did it anyway proving you don't need anything buy politics. There was a reason he was not kicked out of office, no real crime other than the made up nonsense. There is a huge difference between someone who asks the meaning of "is," and someone who commits treason and openly outs active CIA for partisan political reasons.

Welcome to the wonderful world of Cat where A President is guilty of impeachable crimes only if he is a Democrat..And only because he is a democrat

Name the impeachable offences Pelosi might have used against President Bush. Then give me one reason why she wouldn't impeach him? You can't do it. She is a vindictive bitch, and if she could have impeached him she would have in a NY minute.

If we all didn't wish that reality matched our visions of politics, we wouldn't be here... cat.

But people haven't had visions quite as exotic as yours since the heyday of Dr. Timothy Leary

The list of crimes, any of which by itself is sufficient to impeach bush is so long it cannot be written in the small space for a Topix reply so here are a few links. Read them for yourself.

If you really want to know, I suggest you look for yourself instead of playing ignorant.

Remember Pelosi said she would not allow any investigation into bush even before she became speaker. There was some discussion that since Clinton was impeached strictly for political reasons that if she allowed an investigation into bush, that it would be claimed that it was in revenge and there was nothing to it. I don't buy that, she simply refused to do her duty and that makes her complicit in bush's crimes.

The tea partiers have been acting even more brazen, crazier, disrespectful and depraved than usual the past few days — ranging from angrily acting to bring down government, waving confederate flags in defiance of the President in front of his residence, calling for him to come out with his hands up and calling for his impeachment.

It does not matter to them that the can cite no impeachable grounds or can even articulate the obvious racism driving their rudely bizarre behavior. They just feel so threatened by him that they want him and his family out of the White House immediately, one way or another, any way in fact, to ease their infantile temper tantrum.

The tea partiers have become a national disgrace and an international embarrassment. Their irresponsible behavior has resulted in a clearcut betrayal of America. It is they who need to be impeached for all these reasons, which add up to treason.
