The sight of Guillermo Barros Schelotto in the colors of another MLS team is going to make me sick to my stomach. What a horribly fitting way for what could have been a dynasty to be reduced to rubble.

wow way to screw the pooch on this one crew FO and RW. burns might possibly be the worst player on our roster in the last several years, i wouldnt shed one tear if he suffered a career ending injury, yet you decide to resign that sack of horse droppings and let a few of our clubs greatest players ever just leave. no retirement, no thanking them and letting the fans celebrate their last game. instead they will probably being wearing another teams colors next year and we will have to watch as they come to what used to be the fortress of columbus crew stadium and kick our butts (like sigi and co. have done the past 2 years)!!! so i hope you know what the hell youre doing, bc from where im sitting it sure looks like youve given up and our gonna let this MASSIVE club deteriorate to shit.

Coach Bobby stubbornly & idiotically refused to pair Schelotto with the speed, quickness, ball-control technique, creative play and striking prowess of a starting Mendoza (and/or Renteria)!?! This dead-headed coaching obstructionism strategy proved
to be the death-knell for THE CREW in terms of goals
scored, wins, and in the end--MLS playoff performance. Once again, Schelotto IS both disrespected and shamed. As a consequence, of course,
THE CREW is no union of men; only a coach's connivance to nowhere!!!

Hope the Sales team reads our sentiments before calling to beg us to return. I won't waste my time or money.

wow.... I'd been keeping my season tix, even though I live 8 hours/3 states away.
But after this? I gotta seriously reconsider after I see what happens with trying to re-sign some of these players. To just dump the Captain and the MVP with no option for them to go out on their own terms is pretty embarrassing.

I'll hold off final judgment 'til I see what comes of the negotiations, but right now, I'm not happy :(

John,

I would recommend that you think about that $650K salary and then respond again.

If they can renegotiate they will, but to pay a 37 year old DP money in a league with a salary cap is irresponsible. He is a legend, and a man they should keep around, but at what price. Lets see how this all ends up before making irrational comments.

No one in their right mind can honestly say that this team does not need to get much younger in key spots after watching the last 2 years. Anyone who does is speaking with their heart not their head.

GBS's former agent summed it up nicely but I'd be surprised if we didn't get some of these players at a lower salary. Gino has not been contributing much this past season and Francis will only get better (hopefully); Frankie has missed a number of games but I hope we can re-sign him at a lower salary; Duncan has only played in a handful of games but he should be retained as an assistant coach. GBS said he would be willing to play at 325K, half of his option salary. I'm sure the Crew will be negotiating. However, the Crew needs to bring in new players. Our defense needs to be re-build and we need a central midfielder who will make us forget about GBS.

This is just the first part in a long process of negotiations. Don't give up your season tickets yet (which a lot of people did last year when rumors of GBS not returning were going around).

Typical management stupidity! Doesn't matter what the paying fans want or deserve. They've cut the heart out of this (successful) team. Well, they've cut me out as a fan and supporter as well. I'll never buy another ticket...ever!

Sometimes the paying fans don't have a clue about what is in the best interest of the club. Again,$650K is restricting for a club, especially for a 37 year old player. It sucks, but to say you will never buy another ticket or support this team again is weak.

Please don't come back again when this team continues to be good.

Should have kept him for one more year and then added him as a coach. Thanks for the memories GBS!

Well maybe I won't have to put up with my wife talking about how cute Frankie is.. oh Frankie this and oh Frankie that.
Kidding aside those guys are great and they will be missed terribly.. They gave us a fantastic time to be a Crew fan. My son and I will share great memories of the wonderful games we saw that group of players perform in for many years.
Columbus till I die.. Go CREW!! Good luck to fellows who depart.. they'll be fine.

Really sad to see this. will have to reconsider my season ticket renewal. been going for 6 straight years. Not playing Scheletto and Moreno in '09 cost us the Eastern Conference title match. GBS has been the heart of our resurgence since the dismal 2005-06 campaigns.

Also, if we're getting younger, why did we trade Jed Zayner in July? He was the heir apparent to Frankie. The brain trust can't draft to save their lives either. the 2010 draft was abysmal. To all the "Cap experts", name me anyone in the league who brought as much to the field as GBS for the salary. Have you looked at what other teams pay their DP slots?

Patrick,
Speaking of 05-06 get ready for those years all over again. At this point we aint doing crap on the pitch anytime soon.

Steve, I'm not leaving, but be careful when you tell people not to come back when the team is good again. The people who left because of Andrulis didn't come back. That's why our last playoff game was in front of slightly more than 10,000. Imagine what it will be like when everyone decides not to come back because of this crap. I won't argue that $650K would be unwise for the Crew. Based on what we've heard so far, though, I do think they way they have handled the situation to present has been unacceptable. I have zero confidence that the coaching staff and front office will be able to put together a roster capable of winning the championship next year. Like it or not, that is the standard.

Please, you believe he is leaving then you all are stupid .They will resign him like usual its just for show. They do this every year. When they say they are going to get younger players they lie because they will never use the younger players like usual. They are a bunch of Hippocrates. They will keep the old veterans and lose again like usual.

In Regards to GBS, the problem is that they did not even ask if he was interested in playing for less! WTF?

I am thankful to all three for three for their years of service and the hard work that they put in.

On the plus side, this move will show pretty quickly about whether RW is a keeper or not. It is easy to run a team built by another that was very successful, but now that these changes are taking place, he will be far more responsible for the results.
