Another Mississippi insult? Not on U.S. Sen. Trent Lott's watch.
In an interview with the Des Moines Register over the weekend, Democratic presidential frontrunner Sen. Hillary Clinton, D-N.Y., said she was 'shocked' to learn that Iowa was ranked as low as Mississippi for never having had a female governor, senator or congressperson.
And Clinton, whose base of support is female, clearly sees this as a problem in the upcoming Iowa caucuses. 'I think Iowa poses a special burden, or a special obstacle to me because when you look at the numbers, how can Iowa be ranked with Mississippi? That's not what I see. That's not the quality. That's not the communitarianism, that's not the openness I see in Iowa.' Read more
