White people are very sorry for slavery.
But I wonder why African Americans aren't more thankful for it.
Without slavery there would be very few blacks living in America today.
Which for whites means none of the racial turmoi we have today.
But for most blacks it would mean the difference between being like Obama's $1-a-day half brother in Africa or living far better here in America.
Mac-7 I'm not saying you're necessarily a racist, but this is exactly the lamest outrage argument that Archie Bunker types have used. Asking blacks to be thankful for slavery is as obscene as saying Jews should be thankful for the gas chambers because they sped up the birth of Israel.

A more sensible rebuttal would be that slavery ended practically five or six generations ago, that whites today had nothing to do with it, and that this is a worn-out issue. Japanese-Americans were those who personally suffered, not their great-great-grands.

Would that be the same Steve Cohen who was excluded from the segregated, no-whites-allowed Congressional Black Caucus?
I guess blacks figure any game white racists can think up black racists can learn to play.

“As a white liberal running in a majority African American district, Tennessee Democrat Stephen I. Cohen made a novel pledge on the campaign trail last year: If elected, he would seek to become the first white member of the Congressional Black Caucus.
Now that he's a freshman in Congress, Cohen has changed his plans. He said he has dropped his bid after several current and former caucus members made it clear to him that whites need not apply.
"I think they're real happy I'm not going to join," said Cohen, who succeeded Rep. Harold Ford, D-Tenn., in the Memphis district.
"It's their caucus and they do things their way. You don't force your way in. You need to be invited."
Cohen said he became convinced that joining the caucus would be "a social faux pas" after seeing news reports that former Rep. William Lacy Clay Sr., D-Mo., a co-founder of the caucus, had circulated a memo telling members it was "critical" that the group remain "exclusively African-American."”

The whole damned country should apologize for the crap done in its history. Slavery is only one of those things.

So, everyone is sorry... what the hell is so hard about that? I don't know why some whites resist that... who cares if YOUR direct ancestors weren't the perps, still, aren't you sorry? Damn, I mean it was atrocious, wasn't it?

Now can we have equality and justice and move on, please? Move away from white racism, move away from black reactionism, move on like fellow humans and stop the bull$hit!!!

I'm sorry there was such a thing as slavery, it's not human. Now, saying that, I can assure that, no matter how many generations you go back--no one in my family tree ever owned any. We might have been part of the slaves. As you know, they also had white slaves. Now right there could have been where part of my family was. There were some that just simply vanished off the face of the earth. I am so fed up hearing that crap, I wasn't there. I can't help what they did to the slaves. But, for God's sake, learn another song. This one is so damn old, all the gripping about slavery. I CAN'T HELP WHAT WENT ON DURING THAT TIME PERIOD. GET ANOTHER SOAP BOX TO SING ON. LET IT GO!!!!!!
You uneducated idiots keep rationalizing... Your rationale is moot... You could use the same rationalization for Native American Reparations... That insurrection occurred centuries ago...

The remnants of slavery still exist. The U.S. was built by African American slaves for FREE! And they were still only allowed to be counted as 3/5s of a human! They still were forced to drink from the uncooled fountains! They were castrated, whipped, dismembered, amputated, raped, drug, lynched for merely ASKING to be considered equal! Had to ride on the back of the bus but were forced to pay the same fare as everyone else! Not just 50 years ago!!!!! And we are still slaves to the majority! CNN depicted this recently on their "Black In America" series... It was quite an intellitual and insightful series that disputes all you've rationalized here...

If Native Americans were given Reparations, why can't Blacks at least be given a simple apology for the millions that were killed?! I love it when uneducated racists comment on thinsg they have no knowledge of...

HISTORY LESSON PART I:

Few can imagine the atrocity that Africans endured on the slave ships. The filth, the stench, the loss of life, the disease, the packing of men in spaces so tight they could neither turn, nor stand, nor squat, nor sit is beyond human comprehension. For fifty days or more at a time, per voyage, our ancestors were tortured. Tight packers herded as many Africans aboard as possible, arguing that net receipts from sales of slaves would off-set the number that died. Loose packers preferred to give their captives "breathing room", trusting that more would survive the journey under sanitary conditions. So great was the profit from the sale of the enslaved that most European captains filled their vessels to the top, adding a second platform, if necessary, barely twenty inches above the heads of those below, to accommodate more. Crammed in suffocating heat, held fast by chains bolted to the floor, forced to lie in their own waste, breathing air rancid with vomit, disease, and sickness. There amid huge rats that gnawed through wood and flesh, men went mad. There on floors covered with blood and excrement, pregnant women gave birth. There the living awoke, chained to the dead. The daily routine brought little relief. Mashed horse beans pounded to a pulp and served with slabber sauce, a mixture of flour, palm oil, and water twice a day. Next came the dancing of the slaves, a cruel form of exercise and amusement conducted by slave captains to keep their human captives in salable condition. After a few hours, they were again forced back into the hell below. It was this journey that brought millions of us to America, the West Indies, South America, and countries of Europe. 50 to 200 million have been estimated as dying in transport alone.

What our white ancestors unintentionally initiated was selective segregation of the strongest males and females ever to come out of Africa. No other race ever on Earth has survived the atrocities we did. Not the Jews, no one.

When we finally did arrive in America, they put tar on our wounds and oiled us down to make us pretty and shiny so that we netted max dollar at slave auctions. Did I mention they also divided families up and sold them to whoever? Now we've been sold and are now on the plantations. They strapped a plow on us and worked us like ox or cattle or horses. Unintentionally, they made us as strong as ox by working us like ox and feeding us the unwanted parts of pig, horses, etc... And unfortunately, many died from the fatal work-ethic forced upon us.

How dare you live in the country who's foundation (the textiles that my ancestor slaves produced...the cotton, the crops, etc...) was built by African Americans and dispute the justification of reparations for a race that you're not part of, thus could not ever understand. It's MY ancestors that are turning over in their graves! My Native American ancestors were chased from their tribal grounds! Their nomadic way of life was taken from them! They were forced to live on plantations. But even they weren't murdered or raped by the millions, and they DID receive reparations. If they received reparations for a lessor atrocity, then why not allow reparations for a race that was done even worse?

Trust me! According to scholars and professors, the effects of slavery still linger...

Do you know what the spirit and intent of this Caucus is? You absolutly do not because you're an uneducated idiot...

It has nothing to do with race in terms of exclusivity! It's intent is to focus efforts/attention on issues that had long been neglected due to racism and still are... They ensure certain issues don't fall thru the cracks and ensure representation... It's not some Black Panther Party Org... If it was, do you think Congress would allow it?

You're idiots...
