I wish lawmakers filibustered more. But they should be required to stand up there the whole time without any bathroom breaks. Like the good old days.

As a lifelong Democrat, I should want a veto-proof Senate for my party but honestly I don't. We need a healthy debate to progress and I am not sure this is the best way to do it.

I'm all about the filibuster-proof Senate. I want Washington to start getting sh*t done, and the sooner the better.

I'm with you, Has Cheeseburger. Fillibuster-proof will just help things move along faster and more efficiently.

So before we all move on too quickly to acceptance, perhaps we all should consider what may have been lost yesterday and demonstrate that concern by wearing a black arm band, attaching a black ribbon to our American Flag, and any other silent but demonstrative way you can think of to show that you are not sanguine about our country's future.
Great idea

Despite this UNITY president, he has done nothing but DIVIDE this nation.

A power boosted Congress controlled by Democrats - well - they better get things done - no more excuses like they have been doing for 2 years.

No more Bush to blame, no more GOP to blame.

It's all on them and this Pretender President.

Those who voted for him, you got your wish.

However - you have to be careful of what you wish for, sometimes the results aren't quite as you expected.

Wake up call is coming in the first quarter of 2009.

Yeah - look at what FDR did when he had the same thing. Twelve years of a Democratic Totalitarian regime that brought America to its knees. Took almost 30 years to recover.

I agree -- everyone deserves a bathroom break. How can one think clearly when the bladder is full?

I dunno. I think filibuster-proof could be a little risky. Sure, things may progress more quickly, but I believe debate is important.
