This is AS I SEE IT, by Mike "Mainer Mike" Brown.

In America, the judicial system stresses innocent until proven guilty. The media, on the other hand, often doesn't see it that way. Guilty until proven innocent is how they look at it when someone is accused of a crime.

Now, Senator Ted Stevens' reputation is forever tarnished.

I remember in 1996, when Dallas Cowboys wide receiver Michael Irvin was accused of raping a woman.

The media didn't even hear both sides of the story before creating headlines about how he was in trouble with the law.

I even read one journalist's article that stated how the NFL should suspend him even before this were to go to trial.

Irvin was angry, asking the media if they were going to write with the same intensity when they found out that he was innocent.

Well sure enough, Irvin was proven innocent, and no, the media didn't write with the same amount of intensity as they did when they were for sure that he was guilty.

Senator Stevens is now in the same boat as Irvin was.

I hope the media's happy with themselves!

That's AS I SEE IT. I'm Mike "Mainer Mike" Brown.
