Uncle Ted got away with his crimes because he was found guilty. The charges were dropped because the prosecutors broke the rules of evidence. That is a technicality. When a jury finds Stevens "not guilty" that will change. There is also the taped conversation were Stevens said that the worse thing that could happen to him and Allen was a little jail time. That shows that both of them knew they were breaking the law. Guilty!!!

It's too bad that he corrupted all those years of service by committing several felonies

Alaska are very appreciated for what Uncle Ted did for the past 40 years of service....however, if there is still a re-election I still would not vote for him....not because he is a crook or becuase he is too old to being running the state....right now he is 84...another 6 years will make him 90 year old....when you are over past your late 80's your mind doesn't work that good....if you don't believe me...go visit a nursing home and you will understand what i i think begich is doing a great job for someone who is still new to the office...he won fair and square for Palin the more she say the more i am ashamed to have her for our gov....please alaska next time let re-elect someone who have a higher IQ....i don't care if they are a dem. or a rep.----just someone who can moved our state forward...

This should prompt all people of the United States to demand a removal of any past crime on their record if they have done anymore than $ years of community volunterism. Oh by the way those people should be paid for their services. This whole ordeal with the AG and Sin Stevenson is gross and sickening, and Palin is intigating this crap! You all are as crooked as they come..Now pay my PFD out already!!!!

The state of Alaska had an election and Stevens lost. No special election is wanted or needed. The next opportunity for Stevens to run for Senate will be in the next primary against Lisa Murkowski.

Gawd, can we recall Palin? Please!!!! We've waited 2 1/2 yrs for honest and transparent governing? I'm still waiting for those illegal email accounts to go public. Republicans lost to a Democrat, no recall Stevens was on the ticket and he's still a criminal, old or not he should go to jail.

You whinning republicans make me ill. I will still vote against Stevens. I have for almost 40 years. Mr. Begich won fair and square. He is 85 years old and has gotten away with stuff for 40 years. Go home old man and enjoy your grand children. Leave the running of this country to the young. After all we will be here long after you are dead and forggotten. You got the legacy that YOU earned.

No way. Begich, you stay right where you are.
I'm a Republican, and I am ashamed of what this party has done. I for one, am glad that Stevens is finally out of office. He got caught, was taped, and was proven to be a bad man. End of story.
No matter what, he got caught. Go home, and stay home. You made Alaska look like garbage, along with the others. Pay for your crimes, and accept that you f___ed up plain and simple. Whether charges be dropped, in only because things were handled poorly.
Now, lets get Murkowski out.

Senator Begich do the right thing. Work for the people of Alaska as you were elected to do. Senator Stevens enjoy your retirement. All of this is really a waste of time. The next election for senator is in 2010. If Uncle Ted really has what it takes to do it, he can run for election in two years. His felonies are no longer an issue. The Attorney General Eric Holder has given you the pardon that George Bush denied you. We should all be happy to have an ethical Attorney General for the first time in eight years. Most states let their felons out of prison when they are too old to be anything other than harmless. Sending an 85 year old man to "club Fed" is a waste of money at this point. Again, enjoy your retirement Senator Stevens.

Alaska has a a strange strain of Republicans who mostly like to think they know when life begins and ultra-pro development, but not for a second am i fooled by the shysters above who say they are repubs. Man, these Anchorage woodstock leftovers who idolize anyone who loves applepie and unemotional reason are in a complete and utter tizzy. Why must Begich stay, what is so important ? Will he sometime go over to Europe with "THe man who would be KING" and make America look like a weak laughing stock for all of our enemies like'that one' has recently done ?

Right away these false pea-brains above are on Teds age or anything they can dream up and lie about. I really don't care what Teddy has done, at least he does not disgrace our wonderful, just and powerful country to the Europeans with remarks on how we do not do the world right unless he is in command....What a sordid laugh, a unexperienced community organizer who never ran a candy store telling the world that America is not right, but we are wrong and that past administrations are to blame.

Maybe he can scare the populace once more with the BIG LIE of a depresson so that a bogus bill can pass to make us a psudo-socialist garbage can of the weak and deranged.

Maybe he will continue to send more soliders to Afganistan so that we can find BIGfoot, alien Bin-rag head ! HAHAH, and the lib fakers tell us about WMDs til the end of time.

Will he put us in a quagemire there worse than Vietnam so that a fake crisis can be contrived as he knows even the Russians were defeated in Afganistan. What a way to make us look bad and show the anti-war peace nix forever loons that wars don't work....see !

I guess I got off topic, but I see inexperienced Begich in the exact same light as Obozo!

Lets face it almost all politicans are corrupt in one way or another ir they would not be politicans. Just look at the ones that are in Alaska in general. Most seem to have come here from some backwoods circus. The biggest crook is in the white house trying with all of his might to steal your heritage, values and country and sell it to the highest overseas bidder.

Stevens was railroaded by libs, that just a fact folks !

Just becasue the charges against Stevens are being dismissed does not mean he is not guilty.

It is unfortunate, but I think you still have to honor the election. Believe me, if this was the other way around, you'd have all sorts of democrat kooks protesting for a new election, and the entire media would be screaming alongside them.
But I do think the prosecutors should have their law licenses taken away. Their conduct was reprehensible. This was not a simple error, they deliberately withheld evidence ... and are every bit as guilty as Nifong was. They were out to take down a republican senator ... at any cost.

Give it up already! Stevens lost BOO HOO! In exit polls conducted after the election the majority of Alaskans said they didn't take into account Ted Stevens "conviction". Alaska was ready for change, and most of us have accepted it.
People like Ruedrich need to pull their heads out of their rears. No good would come out of a special election, and it would leave Alaska under represented.

This proposal by AK Republicans is idiotic. "...They say will allow Alaskans the chance to vote for a senator without improper influence."

EVERY campaign ad by a Republican is "improper influence". Heck, I'll be generous -- every campaign ad by ANY POLITICIAN is "improper influence".

Evidently the AK Republican Party thinks the majority of Alaskans are stupid, or corrupt themselves, and would overlook Ted Stevens helping himself to large portions of the earmark money he brought into the state, and gifts from the people who received part of that earmark money.
