Dems eye insurance industry's antitrust protection

Oct 21, 2009 | Posted by: roboblogger | Full story: The Boston Globe

Top Senate Democrats intend to try to strip the health insurance industry of its exemption from federal antitrust laws as part of the debate over health care, according to congressional officials, the latest evidence of a deepening struggle over President Barack Obama's top domestic priority.

Why is it that you choose to blame each others parties, while you also choose to not see, that the price for everything has skyrocketed, along with all your new taxes and fees and whatever else you want to call them?

There is only one way to make healthcare work FOR AMERICA. Single payer system. Of course the lobbiests for the insurance industry will bribe you, while they threaten to stop advertising with those the parts of the media that back such, so the same stalemate will remain and things will just keep getting worse.

Health insurance IS NOT health CARE.

The insurance cartel is nothing more than paper pushers, money handlers and an industry that dictates care between you and your doctors.

Anything wrong with competition?
I thought that was capitalism at its finest....

You fool. Since 1945 the government has been paid by the healthcare industry to serve as mob protection. Imagine how much money THAT took. And the government made sure that YOU had no choices; YOU had no option to turn to if you felt you weren't getting your money's worth or felt you were being cheated. You and the rest of us have been prisoners of government-safeguarded healthcare. Let's wonder how many politicians made millions at our expense.

Hell, and you idiots want less government? The government's been up your ass in a thousand different ways and you seem to have loved every minute of it.

obama is becoming more vicious by the day. His attacks on the insurance industry are an attempt to quell free speech. The last thing obama wants is for the shortcomings of his bogus health care plan to be revealed to the public. The more details that come out about obama's plan the less able the Democrats can later claim they didn't read it before they voted for it.

What specific " Anti-Trust " issues are there ?

The " Trust" like setup of having to have a separate company in each and every state to sell med. insurance is Congressional driven and should be abolished to lower costs of doing biz and increase competition.

The " Trust " part I take it is the corporate entity that is forced to have separate companies in any state it sells ins. in. Of course the Fed can sell across state lines but private concerns cannot. Sounds like restriction under the rules of Interstate Commerce to me.

That's EXACTLY the point in a nutshell. Health insurance IS NOT health CARE. Doctors & nurses & specialists provide HEALTH CARE. The insurance industry are a bunch of money handlers and PROFIT TAKERS.

Let us read the bill!!
If you want to be able to even have a teeny-tiny 72 hours to look over the health care deform bill then you need to call your rep. and ask them to sign the Discharge Petition for H.Res. 554.

Go here to find out if your rep. has signed it. They only need 36 more to get it out of committee where the Democrat leadership has had it bottled up for weeks and weeks.

This should be a bipartisan issue.

What kind of shady characters do not want the American people to be able to have time to read the bills?

Do it today!

Democrats are the Great Protectors of the Little Guy? Myths should be exposed and proved to be false! Attorneys never heal the sick and never will! They kill people! Doctors are cheated by lawyers who are writing Medicare regulations that create a beligerence of power over dignity! This power will be stopped and the doctor/ patient relationship is more important than the attorney / client priviledge! The law should be respected and medical ethics need to be applied! The society is wealthy, when we have good medical care that is fairly compensated! The mental poverty of democrats with college degrees cheapens global humanity! Opressed shold not trust Democrats who are out for themselves; like John Edwards!

Ha ha ha...I couldn't help but laugh at this bozo's post. "An attempt to quell freespeech" What the hell would this hick know about free speech? Thanks to free speech, which is alive and well in this country, morons like him get a soapbox. If Obama's health care plan doesn't pass, then maybe the only good thing is idiots like this will just die sooner from lack of good health care.

According to McClatchy news, in the Democrat’s 2006 campaign book, in the “integrity” section, the Democratic leadership vowed that legislation would be posted online for 24 hours before consideration of the final versions of any bill.

That promise coupled with their president’s claims that he’d post all bills online for five whole days — that’s 120 hours in case anyone’s counting — not to mention his now hoary claim that he’d put all debates on C-Span so that we the people could keep tabs on what Congress is doing makes for a facade of a deep interest in government transparency.

And facade it has turned out to be for all these promises have been completely forgotten now that Democrats have taken up the reins of power.

Obviously the campaign was “then” and having power is “now.” In the minds of Democrats, the two bear no relationship one to the other showing that campaign promises are so much wind and bombast never meant to be taken seriously.

In other words: lies.

In keeping with the light speed at which Democrats are running away from transparency, we find few Congressional Dems supporting the Baird/Walden discharge petition.

This measure would institute a House rules change and require bills to be posted online for 72 hours before a floor vote.

And if you get sick and don't have health insurance who is going to foot your bill? Can you afford it out of pocket or are you going to make us taxpayers pay for your share? Health insurance, like auto insurance, should be mandatory, but at affordable prices that everyone, even those struggling, can afford.

I have insurance, and I pay for it myself,$2229.00 per month for my wife and myself. But there have been several times in my life, when I didn't have insurance, and when I got sick, I paid the bill myself, sometimes I had to pay it out. Most of the people that don't pay their bills are those that think they are owed something.

For health insurance to be "affordable", Health care would have to be affordable. Tort reform is one thing to help get there. My anniversary date for my Health insurance is Dec 1st, and for the first time, my premiums are going down. Texas passed tort reform.

Goldman Sachs Earnings and Bonuses, Where's the Outrage?

Oct 19, 2009 - 03:35 AM
By: Mike_Shedlock

Goldman Sachs earnings, bonuses, and influence pedaling over the past several days is quite stunning.

Many have pointed out the problems; few have expressed outrage over what is happening in general, not just at Goldman Sachs. Let's take a look.

My take is at the end.

Letting The Dice Roll
by Rolfe Winkler at Contingent Capital

Is Goldman really such an indispensable financial intermediary? One look at the firm’s revenue breakdown shows that it’s more casino than anything else, and some of the markets it makes still put the economy in danger.

Goldman, in other words, generates most of its revenue trading its own money and earning vigorish on customer transactions. It’s a hybrid hedge fund and bookie, with an investment bank and asset management business thrown in for good measure.

With that in mind, one is left to wonder whether Goldman was really worth saving last year. What have taxpayers received for the $50 billion worth of cash and guarantees, for giving Goldman access to the Federal Reserve as its lender of last resort?

Saving Goldman was largely about saving the derivatives market, which is so big and unstable that the death of one counterparty could mean the death of all. With big commercial banks like JPMorgan Chase in deep, saving the derivatives business was as much about protecting depositors and maintaining the integrity of the payment system as it was derivatives themselves.

To Goldman’s credit, they’ve rebuilt their capital levels faster than anyone. Their leverage ratio has fallen from 35 to 16 in less than two years, despite pressure from equity analysts to juice returns by deploying “excess capital”.

But at $50 billion, the bank’s mark-to-myth, or level 3, assets remain as high as its tangible common equity, the cushion it has to absorb losses.

Wall Street and its protectors at the Fed and Treasury tell us the bailout was necessary to protect the financial system, to protect Main Street.

That may be. But Main Street still owns much of the risk while Wall Street gets all of the profit.

THANKS OBAMA.
