Look at District Wide Technology Phase 1A currently out for bid in Rochester. This is technology improvements for Rochester area schools. The bid documents indicate that there is a labor agreement already in place between the school management and the local unions. There are prevailing wage agreements to govern how much workers will be paid on the project. All this has been done before the project even goes out for bid.
This is not a true bid process because of the parameters already in place. What it means is that the taxpayers are required to pay $45 an hour for a job that would normally be bid out at $21 an hour. You, the taxpayer, are forced to pay union dues when you should have the choice to pay or not to pay. Your choice has been taken away from you as well as your money.
Talk to your elected representatives and ask them why this happens and how it can be stopped. The money is always in the economic engine - if you don't spend it on inflated wages and unions dues then you will spend it on fixing your house or your schools will spend it on other projects and not try to raise your taxes again.
