"I've been a lifelong Republican — I haven't changed, I don't know what the problem is — I really don't," said Snowe.

You have never been a Republican, Senator Snowe and you'll never change. THAT is why you don't know what the problem is... and never will.

Yes, let's adopt a RINO approach. That worked soooo well for McCain.

"Snowe to Pawlenty: GOP should borrow my approach."

You mean flip flop between party's and issues on a weekly basis and keep both sides and your constituents guessing where you stand? You need to go Snowe and you will!

Pawlenty is a good man. I think he is a maverick similar to McCain. I like mavericks.

I am sorry to say this Miss Snowe, but if you support a public option for Health Care you are NOT and I can't emphasize this enough (NNNOOOOTTTT) a Republican anymore (if you ever really were in the first place).

There are fundamental differences between Dem's and Rep's on this subject. Those issues can be debated but your affilliation cannot. If Pawlenty actually made the statements she claims he did, then Pawlenty used poor judgement.

Pawlenty has baggage coming with him to the national stage. Lets talk about his increases on tobacco taxes and the no smoking bill. These are very anti-conservative ideas and he will have to try and explain these away, if he can.
He also brings with him his very tight relationship with enviromentists. Mandating Ethanol in our gasoline is something the market should work through, not the government.

Man did she ever make Pawlenty look small!!! GOP making like the party of pathetic lunatics like T Paw envisions will surely punch their tickets alright. They will never learn from their mistakes because they never admit them! Bush is starting to look like the brightest bulb on their tree.A pathetic thing that is too! They've got to soberup.Nobody in their right mind would put Pawlenty or Palin in the White House or even in Congress. Think about that... Palin or Pawlenty have their little twinkies on the Red Button ?? God help us all!

I applaud Rep Snowe for her sentiment, but respctfully disagree with her support of the DFL health care proposal. I absolutely agree that politics should be inclusive to adequately represent the spectrum across the public, I just think this bill hurts far more people than it helps. It shouldn't be that hard for Rep Snowe to understand the impact of the administrative cuts on Medicare, the impact of coverage mandates and/or premium caps as well as the complex relationships between the public/private sector. Heck, even our own Amy Klobuchar is giving only tacit support to this bill saying that she would only support a public option if it came hand in hand with meaningfull cost reforms (the implicit point being that the current proposal does not contain meanngfull cost reforms).

Her so called middle of the road approach is nothing more than a lack of conviction and principal. It is one thing to compromise, but to waiver when our freedoms are at stake is another.
She should call herself what she is.... a democrat.

This is precious. King Timmy being slapped down by a little old lady.

Keep up the in-fighting people. This is one reason why everyone hates Republi-thugs. You can't even get along with each other.

Do you read anything other than Huffpo or Kos? The dems right now aren't exactly playing in the sandbox together either. Healthcare ring a bell?

Gee you mean political parties actually debate and even disagree with eachother? Gasp! What a horrible unspeakable idea. Next thing you know they'll actually try to decide it through a primary!.

And the DemonicRats are doing what again? You are one of many reasons I'll never vote Dem again. When it comes the circus of politics, YOU are a one trick pony!

Snowe has always been a reliable democratic vote. Not surprising she is feeling a bit defensive.

I hope not.'Maverick' was mainstream media code for a republican who votes with the democrats and against his party pretty often--the liberal media loved him until the time when he ran against obama. Is this pawlenty? Hard to say. He went along with plenty of liberal things while governor here.

"Meaningful cost reforms"

How should this be defined?

You cannot fix the problem if you don't understand the problem.

Simple economics supports my contention that there is too much demand for health care services. This does not mean that people are more unhealthy than they were 20 years ago, just that more people have health insurance. The problem is NOT that lawsuits are driving the prices up or that the uninsured are getting free medical service. The problem is that those individuals that have insurance are demanding more services.

Education costs have also skyrocketed because we have been brainwashed that everyone must have a college degree to be successful. Everyone is going to college now. When I went to school, it was not an easy thing to be accepted into college. There is simply too much demand now.

As in any economic boom, the quality has suffered to meet the demand of the masses. We must as a society change our expectations. Do I really need to go $100,000 into debt to get an education? Do I really need to go to the doctor for a runny nose? Sometimes the answer to these questions will be yes, but many times the answer will be NO. College isn't for everyone. Never has been, never will be. I wish I had a nickel for everytime I heard "I got a job but not in my field".

Of course it is easy to blame the greedy insurance companies and lawyers and doctors, but they are simply on the profitable side of the economic equation with governement about to pour gasoline into the fire.

Pawlenty should immediately tell Snowne to take a long walk off a short pier. Snowne is a stereotypical example of why Republicans lose elections - from the Bush's to Bob Dole to Gerald Ford. Republicans defeat Democrats when they stick to the core message of tax-cuts, reduced spending, making people work that don't want to work. Privatization is and always will be more successful than Government.

She is a liberal, not even a RINO. People like her should follow Spector and join the democrats. The big conservative tent is what is needed to steer this country back to prosperity. The liberals have been in charge of congress since 2006 and have failed miserably. The Obama experiment, well let's face it that hope and change just didn't pan out, unless you work for the gov or the unions. 2010 here we come. 2012 there Obama goes, back to the streets of Chicago to be a community organizer. Was he even good at that?
