What do you mean by, "you will lose your own"? Are they aware that they are behaving in a socially unacceptable way? I think most of the immigrants in my area adapt fairly well. There are some who just don't get it and these are usually those over 30. Perhaps it's time for greater dialogue.

John exclaims that those Somalis, unlike other immigrants who come to the US and live for free, are behaving improperly as if they do not know or appreciate the assistance they get from the US tax payers. John further laments that apart from being unappreciative, Somalis in his area seem to be even more demanding and somehow trying to place restrictions on other people in the community unjustly by taking advantage of their kindness and generousity. If John is correct then they need to learn to adapt to the American way of life--and pronto.

I live in the Twin Cities. Of all the immigrant groups the Somalis are by FAR the worst neighbors and guests. They are ungrateful for all they've been given. They're rude. They're demanding. They have an enormous, unbounded sense of entitlement. They have no desire for assimilation. They have no respect for our community, laws or culture.

And it's not a racial issue, at least for me, and I'd like to think for most people. The Kenyans I've met, for example, seem to be wonderful people - so very different from Somalis, even though their country is right next door to Somalia.

It's evident that they have this problem with evey country and society that hosts them. The Arabs don't want them, other Africans burn them, and even in peaceful places like MN they refuse to get along with others. Hopefully they will someday learn that they too can get along with others if they become more willing and accepting of other peoples cultures.

I agree. I do not see this as a racial issue either. Generally people do not have anything against Somalians on par to what the Jews experience when they move somehwere, but people the world over do complain about their conduct. Indeed Somalians are a proud people, but it would not hurt if more of them were a bit humble too.


Greg as for our side, since we already know that they have a problem assimilating, perhaps we need to make more of an effort to reach out to their community leaders and advise them to develop ways to correct this institutional defect.

Well I wouldn't cast the rude net over the entire Somali population. I was primarily speaking of the problems many have in adapting to their host communities from reading comments and news articles from around the globe. Many [ethnic Somali] live in my area and I don't have a problem with them, but I must admit my interaction is limited in VA. But Alice regardles of cultural differences, there are fundamental aspects of human nature which govern our social interaction with the "other" that according to some comments I've read, they seem to miss/ignore more often than not.

Do you interact with any Somalians in your area? It's obvious you understand the root of the matter. How do you find their/our social integration?

No one want any competition. In EU no one hate on us more than they hate on other immigrants you idiot, the same goes for MOST African countries(except for South Africa) and it's only the Khaliij(southern Arab countries like Yemen and Saudi) where there are hostily toward us just like they are hostile towards Indians, other AFricans, Filipinos etc. Other Arab countries are not like that AT ALL.
