Maher Blasts Obama: "This Isn't What I Voted For!"

Jun 14, 2009 Full story: snafu-ed.blogspot.com 1,896
Just because you're a liberal doesn't mean you won't complain about another liberal doing things you don't agree with. In point of fact, that's true "Fair and Balanced Journalism." For example, Sen. Max Baucus (D-Montana) and health care reform, in my mind, don't mix well. On Friday night's Real Time with Bill Maher, Bill picked on someone of note among Democrats: President Barack Obama. Man, I LOVE Bill Maher. He is so right on the money. Yes, we need to see some more assertiveness. The thing is, though, that Obama has been very smart to date, and usually plays chess with about three or four moves ahead of everyone else in mind. So, I'm torn.

YES, get moving on healthcare reform and get rid of Don't Ask Don't Tell, and prosecute the evil people who ordered lawyers to justify torture... on the other hand...

You've been handling things pretty darn well so far, and if you've got something up your sleeve for each of these issues, then I take it all back and defer to your strategic insight.

WASHINGTON—The rudimentary equation of the health insurance industry is that to make a profit, it must take in more money than it pays out in claims. This is why the public, as distinct from the political class, will intuitively understand and likely appreciate Michael Moore’s new film,“Sicko.”

There is nothing particularly startling about any of the stories Moore presents of average Americans who are bankrupted, or who grow sicker, or who desperately seek treatment abroad, or who die because health insurance bureaucrats denied or restricted the care they could receive. When Moore put out an invitation on the Internet for people to come forward with their “health care horror stories,” he got more than 3,700 responses in the first 24 hours—within a week, he had amassed more than 25,000 stories.
These affronts to common sense and human decency have a monotonous familiarity. There is the middle-aged couple who lose their home and are forced to move into a daughter’s basement because of financial catastrophe brought on by the co-payments and deductibles related to the husband’s treatment for three heart attacks—which were followed by the wife’s cancer diagnosis. There is the slender, 79-year-old man who works as a supermarket janitor to finance the out-of-pocket costs of his prescriptions.

Bill Maher is an idiot.

But he is right about Obama being on tv to much even if it's for the wrong reasons.

The cap and trade energy tax that Maher thinks is too small will ruin the economy of this country and drive more jobs to China.

Top Senate Democrat: bankers "own" the U.S. Congress /
April 30, 2009 / http://tinyurl.com/c4cbkc
Sen. Dick Durbin, on a local Chicago radio station this week, blurted out an obvious truth about Congress that, despite being blindingly obvious, is rarely spoken: "And the banks -- hard to believe in a time when we're facing a banking crisis that many of the banks created -- are still the most powerful lobby on Capitol Hill. And they frankly own the place." The blunt acknowledgment that the same banks that caused the financial crisis "own" the U.S. Congress -- according to one of that institution's most powerful members -- demonstrates just how extreme this institutional corruption is.

The ownership of the federal government by banks and other large corporations is effectuated in literally countless ways, none more effective than the endless and increasingly sleazy overlap between government and corporate officials. Here is just one random item this week announcing a couple of standard personnel moves:

Bill Maher is also on TV too much. He's a comedienne and has no valid knowledge of politics. His only talent is that his whining is funny to the public.
obama is one sorry president and has lied non stop to the public. obama's talent is promoting his trained lawyer's bullshitte to the public.
obama and Bill Maher are two of a kind... flim flam entertainers with an ability to sway the crowd.

Ergo, Bill Maher is a genius.

Obama made it quite clear all along that he was a left of center incrementalist on social issues and foreign policy. It was not so clear that he would take such the aggressive stance on bailing out failed, capitalist enterprises as he has.

The litmus test for me will be after two years or so into his Administration do we have ENDA, hate crimes and a repeal of DADT Don't Pursue or not?

According to you repubes, EVERYTHING Obama or the Dems do will "ruin the economy", yet the stock market is up 30%-50% since March and all signs are pointing to a full economic recovery by year's end. Hmmmmm, what happened to that big bad depression?

Could it be the repubes are running out of scare tactics????

Well, well, well! If the old hate-monger Maher is becoming disenchanted with Obama there may yet be hope for other liberals.
Maher is an idiot if he couldn't figure out Obama's agenda before the election. Now he's waking up and making a little noise, hoping to see campaign promises fulfilled that the little community organizer made, knowing full well he would do no such thing. It was a way to get votes. Just like he promised the homosexuals he would fight for them, yet he has not made any changes to policies already in place. In fact, he supported Don't Ask, Don't Tell and he is opposed to same-sex marriage, just like Carrie Prejean and millions of Americans. He has NO INTENTION of doing anything for homsexuals. What a let-down that must be, to know you got punk'd by a smooth-talking politician.

If you will remember many Republicans with the notable exception of President Bush said that the economy would correct itself if we left it alone.

I think TARP was needed to straighten out the credit situation between Sept and Feb.

So if the economy is recovering Obama had very little to do with it.

In fact he may be making things worse by running up such a big debt with no end in sight.

Certainly the Chinese and the Euro's think he is wrong on the economy.

And we do have a 9.4% unemployment rate that is still rising.

Anyway while some of his smaller ideas may not ruin the economy all by themselves the massive cap and trade energy tax surely will.
