Can we please stop calling all bills "...and Jobs Act" or "...and Families Act" or "...and Hard Working People Who Think This is Really directed at Them Act"?

Rep. Hurt overstates the number of jobs by a ridiculous amount. Also, is it just me or does he look tipsy and disheveled from time to time? Get it together, bud.

What would be better than creating jobs would be to have all the energy (oil, natural gas etc. etc.) generated off the shores of viriginia stay in this country, rather than being shipped over seas.....I hate to see virginians working to send our much need energy to over seas nations who don't give a fat rats arrse about us....Come on Hurt get with the program.........

That is an excellent point, except you left out two parts that will be needed. Either companies will either have to build warehouse space to store excess since production is greater than demand in the U.S. or companies can layoff people to slow down production to meet demand. Which do you prefer?

oil, natural gas and other energies need to be produced in the u.s. according to demand...the demand in the u.s. is there....the only thing that keeps demand low is the retail price of oil at the pump......If all u.s. production were kept in the u.s. for our use the price of a gallon of gas at the pump would be around 1.99 not 3.50+ and going up and down like a yooyoo on a daily basis....Its time for the u.s. to start looking after its own needs and use its resources for its own people and let the rest of the world go to hell in a basket...

Well, I reckon we better keep all the wheat, corn, lumber, intellectual property, and everything else the US produces and to hell with the rest of the world. But you dumb arse liberals keep sending food to the rest of the world instead of letting them starve.

Seriously? So which way will it be? Would you have all oil & gas production nationalized (that's actually what "socialism" would look like). Or would you just regulate to forbid o&g companies from operating outside of the US?

What we do is called capitalism, and if you want it to be "free market" capitalism then companies are not under things like arbitrary nationalistic constraints. If you want "American energy independence" then your only two options are nationalization or super-heavy regulation of production and distribution. As it stands, neither Virginia nor the USA are an operating unit in the o&g industry.

And you dumb arse - whatever you'd call yourselves - don't operate with any understanding whatsoever of how the economy works. There is no "We" who would keep what "the US" produces. "the US" isn't a unit of production and distribution in the economy for such things as wheat and corn and lumber.

Once again - this is how markets work. Ideas and know-how are services. Things like oil are "goods." In "free markets" the whole idea is that goods and services can flow - freely. It's called trade-liberalization.

If you don't like it, then you can't be a right-winger in U.S. politics.

It is the greed and the systematic dismantling of the middle class that is turning this nation into a third world country.

Ok. You are so seriously confused at so many levels that I don't even know where to start. The fact that the economy is global AND that the political right in the US is always the strongest pusher of trade liberalization has not a darn thing to do with Obama. If you think that international competition is driving us down then start with the Marshall Plan and then look carefully at the late 60's/early 70s - like when Obama was a kid.

And you simply CANNOT "accuse" someone of trade liberalization and "socialism" (as if you have even the lightest clue what it means) at the very same time. It makes absolutely no sense whatsoever.

If you don't want trade liberalization, btw, then join in with the unions.
