Senator Gillibrand Calls On Citizens To Help Oppose DADT Appeal

Oct 4, 2010 | Posted by: Sei | Full story: lezgetreal.com

If President Barack Obama wants to make sure that Dona t Ask, Dona t Tell stops right where it is, all he needs to do is tell Attorney General Eric Holder that the time has come to not doing something- and that is appeal the case before Federal Court Judge Virginia Phillips.

I've been saying this for 2 years. But some people here always attack me for taking this position and falsely claim that Obamaniac "MUST file an appeal" each time a judge strikes down DADT.

He does NOT have to appeal a judge's decision to strike down DADT and while claiming you wnat DADT repealed, you never eplain WHY Obamaniac "MUST appeal" these judges' decisions.

It simply isn't true.

So please explain WHY he keeps appealing these decisions when even members of his own party are imploring him not to.

The obvious reason Obamaniac keeps appealing these decisions is because he WANTS DADT to remain the law of the land, despite his campaign statements to the contrary.

Until the case makes it's way as far up the Federal Court ladder as it can, it will remain a political football.

I hope the Executive Office let's the Solicitor General's Office do it's job without interference of any kind.

On *THIS* specific issue, I agree heartily, repeatedly and vociferously with you. I do not understand this insistence that the decisions "must be appealed." This is *REALLY*,*REALLY* not being handled well at all by the current administration.

Nowhere have I heard Obama or the DOJ state they believe these cases must be appealed. What Obama HAS said is he believes DADT should be repealed by Congress, NOT the courts.

While I don't agree with that, having been in the military for over 20 years I can understand his logic. The military will be much more receptive if this change is made through the legislative process instead of being "imposed" on them by the courts.

In the end the vast majority of the military will follow whatever orders they are given, but if you want the least amount of resistance from the old guard in the military then a Congressional repeal is the way to go.

The OBVIOUS reason that he keeps appealing these decisions by the courts striking down DADT is beacuse he SUPPORTS DADT.

NO OTHER CONCLUSION IS LOGICAL.

Are you going to tell me that I'm wrong simple because Obamaniac "said during the campaign that he wants DADT repealed, and politicians NEVER LIE, so it's 100% CERTIAN that he wants it repealed because he SIAD SO."

There's an old saying among politicians: "Watch what I do. Don't listen to what I say."

Regarding your last sentence, please tell me why ANOTHER Democratic President, did NOT do what Obamaniac is doing, and simply ORDERED the people under his command to integrate the military !

God Bless Harry Truman. He was a TRUE MAN because he DID what he KNEW was RIGHT and didn't WAIT for congress !

What gets me angriest is NOT that Obamaniac won't do what he promised, because I NEVER expected this Chicago pol to do so in the first place, but that NINETY-NINE POINT NINE PERCENT OF YOU REFUSE TO ACKNOWLEDGE THE TRUTH STARING YOU IN THE FACE.

Those of you who firmly believe in Obamaniac are deluding yourselves.

And incidentally, TO CHANGE THE SUBJECT, Rahm Emanuel has quit as Chief Of Staff to run for Mayor of Chicago. An elective office, for which he is LEGALLY INELIGIBLE for. And I have only hear his fellow Democrats point out that fact.

When Emanuel took his post as White House Chief Of Staff more than one year ago, he leased his house to a family. He recently tried to induce these tenants to leave the house, but they refused to do so.

Since the law there specifies a minimum of one year residence to be eligible to run for Mayor of Chicago, and Emanuel has lived in Washington, D.C. for nearly 2 YEARS, he IS, as some Democrats who also would like to be Mayor of Chicago, INELIGIBLE.

But I'm sure Rahm Emanuel will not let something as trivial as the LAW get in his way.

Yup. That's "CHANGE you can believe in !:)" (Chicago-style of course.:))

well, now there you're wrong... jimmy carter was arguably one of the best presidents in u.s. history. what people didn't like him was that he was (and is) a great statesman and business manager, rather than a 'warrior king'. bill clinton was a close second to him, and then mr. obama.

Times were different then. Truman also bombed two japanese cities into radioactive dust and killed, directly or indirectly, millions of japanese citizens.

The segregation of the troops wasn't a legislative order, like DADT; truman had clear authority to override it. DADT was passed by congress and the solution, to be considered permanent, is either to get congress to strike it down or to go through the courts. If he just tells the military to stop enforcing it, the next republican in office will strike that down and all "out" members of the military will be tossed out. Do we really want presidents to be able to ignore laws they don't like? Didn't we get enough of that with reagan and both bushes?

oh, i'm sorry... i didn't realise that you were one of those people who think that the president of the united states has the right to murder the president of another sovereign nation for no reason other than that he doesn't like him, or that he wants that nation's oil reserves. hmmm.

congress should have put bush jr. in a straight jacket right along with his buddy cheney... or tied them to the white house porch rail.

mr. carter didn't want the u.n. to vote against the u.s., but against an illegal war and the bush/cheney hair brained plans to start one for no reason.

Right now, the ACLU is challenging Obamaniac's right to murder American citizens. Are you aware that Obamaniac is on the record as SUPPORTING his RIGHT to do that ?(I don't think he has that right).

Where are all the Dems and libs screaming about the POTUS declaring the RIGHT to murder Americans that he "doesn't like" ?

Are you aware that we had no RIGHT to move against Saddam? Carter was right. He had no restriction on voicing his opinion, any more than you have, nor was he the only person against the iraq invasion.

You mean like every other president has, in one form or another? This is a continuation fo bush's plan, btw, and it involves an al qaeda higher-up. That he was born in america is really not the issue. I doubt very much you would give a damn if it involved a foreign-born terrorist. This is a known killer and planner of terroristic attacks. How does his birth ameliorate that fact?

Cops have the right to shoot american citizens too, if necessary. You really think that, if found, al-Awlaki will just go quietly? You applaud Bush for killing saddam, who was no danger to us, but want to protect this killer and terrorist? Your logic?

I never said DADT discharges couldn't be halted by executive order. I simply said the least controversial way to get rid of DADT is by Congress repealing it.

When you ignore the facts, it's easy to see why you're confused. Obama has repeatedly stated he wants to work with Congress to repeal DADT since being elected. Obviously you missed the State of the Union address before a joint session of Congress this year?
