<<<The Congressional Budget Office's Doug Elmendorf explains: "(T)he economic impact per dollar of revenue reduction from the full extension would be smaller than that from partial extension because a greater proportion of the tax savings from the full extension would go to relatively high income households, which tend to spend less of an increase in income than lower-income households do.">>>
<<<The Moody’s economists examined saving rates by income groups back to 1989. Their study uses statistics from the Federal Reserve’s quarterly Flow of Funds report, which gauges the net worth of households, and the Fed’s triennial Survey of Consumer Finances, a measure of balance sheets, pensions and incomes of U.S. families.
When tax legislation was signed by Clinton in 1993 -- raising the top tax rate to 39.6 percent from 31 percent -- the saving rate fell from 12.1 percent in the second quarter to 9.5 percent in the first quarter of 1994. The Standard & Poor’s 500 Index rose 1.9 percent from July through September, after little change the previous three months.
When the first Bush tax cuts were signed into law in June 2001, pushing the top rate down to 35 percent, the wealthy boosted savings. The saving rate climbed to 2.8 percent in the first quarter of 2002 from minus 2 percent in the second quarter of 2001. The increased savings coincided with a 1.1 percent decline in the S&P 500 index.>>>

Listened to Nationalist People's Radio (NPR) on the way home from work. That's the radio that WE are forced to pay for through tax money. Some of their budget comes from suckers that support them in their annual beg-a-thon, but they also get funding from the federal gubbermint.

Anyway, they had a snarky article on All Things Liberally Considered about the omnibus spending bill. They wanted to tell everybody how many Republicans put earmarks in the bill. Oh how hypocritical. Those Republicans. They say they want to get rid of wasteful spending, but LOOK AT THIS!

No mention of how many liberal socialist/Democrats packed the omnibus with pork. No, wait, they mentioned ONE earmark for a totally worthless project in Hawaii to "take school children out on the ocean in canoes".

Interesting how shows like Limbaugh, Hannity, Beck, etc. make a nice profit and command a huge audience, yet liberal shows like NPR can't break even and have to FORCE us to pay for them.

And so it should be ss it was today. The feds are discriminating against one segment in society, demonizing them because they have achieved monetary success.
It has been my experience that when I received a pay raise, SUI was added to my list of deductions, my SS taxes increased, my federal taxes went up, the 3. 2% I was paying to the state was more and the 3.4% I was paying to the city was also increased. Beginning in 2002, the increase in my health insurance copay coincided with my raise, which was given in January. The consequences of all of these increases, based upon pecentages of my salary left me a poorer woman by far. In fact, from 2002 until I retired in 2008, my net salary incrementally decreased from what it was in 2002.
After considerable brooding, I realized that this is not coincidental, but by design. My grosst pay may well have been $75,000 but my actual disposable income remained stagnant. Our tax structure has been crafted to trap us at a preconceived level through taxes which, as percentages, incrementally parallell every increase we receive.
Only those who are not boxed in by this, those with the highest incomes in the country, can avoid this stagnation, thanks to an army of accountants who can devise alternatives to meekly answering the call of the IRS with obscenely large checks.
The only answer to this is a flat tax. Everyone pays 10% no matter who he is. Welfare recipients should not be excused because it will be a learning experience for them to realize that they live off the largess of other people, not a faceless government.
It is a good citizen's duty to contribute his fair share to the legitimate business of government. It is a bad government that has cheated, lied, stolen from its citizens and proffered billions of American dollars to foreign banks, for foreign aid, for the UN, for the National Endowment for the Arts that thinks a portrait of Jesus with ants crawling on him is "art". The list is endless. If elected officials tried this for even five years, the debt ceiling could be lowered considerably.
The problem with this government is that because of its relatively recent history, it thinks that our money is its money. This misconception must be corrected at once.
Good post. The politicians will never go for a flat tax.Fiddling with the tax code gets them political contributions and votes. There remains a majority of Americans who really believe that they can get something for nothing. The coming economic collapse of America will sort things out.Better stock up on beans bullets, and warm clothes.
