Budget Reconciliation Is The Only Question! Let’s Leave a Planet to Live In!

Bush and the GOP caused, created, and are responsible for the economic collapse and debt they denounce Democrats today about. The GOP broke it, destroyed our economy, and now they refuse to accept responsibility. The GOP are repeatedly misrepresenting the cost of carbon cap and trade. The highest cost of global warming is the cost of doing nothing – relocating 1 billion people and trillions in destroyed agricultural impacts. Freidman has it right in his April 1 Times article. Bush and the GOP “mispriced” climate risk just like the GOP “mispriced” bank deregulation risk. The GOP are only for privatizing the profit and socializing the loss. The GOP are now again dumping the costs for oil and coal carbon emissions on the public while oil and coal companies rake in record profits just like the GOP did with banking risk. The cost of carbon emissions today are being paid by the people. Don’t be fooled again! Pass carbon cap and trade today!

The best deficit reduction is reform of health care and control of carbon emissions. Using the budget reconciliation procedure is the only way to get these deficit controls because the GOP hates both reforms. All the fine budget rhetoric about climate change by Democrats is meaningless without including budget reconciliation instructions to allow 51 votes to pass the budget instead of 60 votes. Carbon cap and trade legislation reduces budget costs that are inevitable without action now. Senator Sessions, a reportedly “moderate” Republican, said Obama’s budget maybe “the worst budget in history”. There is absolutely zero chance in the Senate of getting a 60 vote super majority required to pass a filibuster except to pass a watered down budget version that is meaningless. Currently, the House Budget Committee passed a budget resolution that included budget reconciliation instructions to pass health care reform but according to the New York Times March 26th article the House Budget Committee can later include instructions for using budget reconciliation for passing Carbon Cap and Trade and education reform.
However climate change is not waiting. The artic ice and glaciers are melting up to 8 times faster than just last year due to the already higher artic and ocean temperatures. The GOP hate global warming reform and budget reconciliation is the only way to reduce catastrophic costs resulting from global warming. Scientists forecast one sixth of the world population, that is over one billion people – over 3 times the USA population alone - will be relocated due to climate change without immediate actions. First the GOP destroyed our economy and now they want to destroy our planet! Carbon Cap and Trade is mandatory immediately. Global temperatures already have risen 1.6 degrees and climate changes already locked in place are devastating and increasing exponentially fast. Like health care reform, the cost for climate change now is far less than delaying action until later. We can not afford to play Russian roulette with our planet, risking catastrophic irreversible climate changes.
