Perhaps gun owners do want background checks yet bills such as the miserable bill Charles Schumer put forward are laden down with all kinds of additional unrelated BS. No way could Congress put forward a simple unadulterated bill to deal with background checks. Instead they push for backdoor registration, oddball rules guaranteed to trip up family members and close friends, and guarantee at some point background checks will be impossible because there will be no one to do them thus stopping commerce in firearms.

Meanwhile, as concealed carry and open carry have spread across the nation over the last 20 years, gun violence has DECLINED along with those changes. Enforce the NIC system in place and stop trying to impose more Big Government restrictions on the law abiding public.

Exactly right ML. If the NIC system enforced and prosecuted violators, we probably wouldnt be having this gun debate. If the system isnt working, then the failure lays at the feet of law enforcement (FBI, State Police, etc). But of course, the antigunners love to scream for 'universal' background checks. What does that mean, above and beyond the referals, fingerprinting, and criminal record search that I have already gone through? Do they need my cholesterol count? Shoe size? Favorite color?
The only thing they really want, is all guns to be melted for scrap, no regard for anyone elses rights or feelings. And some fairy godmother or magic spell will turn all the scumbag criminals and mentally defective nut cases inti peaceful, law abiding, productive members of society. Nobody will ever be violent, and nobody will ever get hurt. When that happens, I will be happy to toss mine on the top of the pile and join in the perpetual utopian love-a-thon. Untill then, they can go piss up a rope!
Our security is what we make of it, not the
government, not the cops. They usually only get to react, because, they cant be everywhere all the time. As the old saying goes 'Theres never a cop around when you need one'

There are already laws in place for gun background checks, the feds have limited numbers powers and one of those powers is INTERSTATE commerce and none of those powers is INTRASTATE commerce. Buy a gun from out of state or go out of state to buy a gun, there's a background check. Transfers between individuals who reside in a state are not INTERSTATE commerce, therefore the feds lack the authority to make laws regarding their transfers. This whole, "gun show loophole" malarkey is just another way for the government and liberals to open the Pandora's box of giving the feds the authority to grow their powers beyond comprehension.

The feds have apparently found 99,000 wanted fugitives trying to buy guns (a serious crime by itself). They had them standing there with the FBI on the phone, and then just turned them all loose. Sent them walking! Half a million hardened criminals too, same thing. Is that what 90% of the public supports? Is this what the "news" reported to you? What's wrong with this picture? I gathered the numbers, you can read the story later:
