Showdown Time In Maine- Yes or No on Question 1

Nov 2, 2009 Full story: lezgetreal.com 27

On Tuesday, Maine voters will be going to the polls to determine if outside money can buy a New England election. The outcome of this election could determine the future of Senator Olympia Snowe, or whether or not the New Hampshire race to replace Senator Judd Gregg will be determined more from within the states than from places like Utah, Georgia, and Alabama. According to Nate Silver, nine times more Mainers have donated to the No on 1 campaign than have donated to the Yes on 1 campaign. The bulk of the Yes on 1 campaign’s funds have come from either the National Organization for Marriage, a group rumored to be affiliated with the Mormon Church, and the Roman Catholic Church, which can ill afford this fight.

Vote YES in Maine and retain the family values that have made this country great.
you do that the US scores low on education, health and standard of living compared to other G8 countries?

of the 42 wealthiest nations, you're #42 for infant mortality rates - meaning, you have the most dying babies

and you want to shore up intolerance and ignorance to maintain that?

we have universal health care, a higher standard of living, a better economy, education system than you.

you should be so lucky to repeat our mistakes

I recommend, before you think I'm supporting your point, you listen to the song.

I agree with voting Yes to save the American way of life.
Marriage is an important part of American life. Why are you so anti-family? Do you really feel that harming couples and kids is good for them, and for America?

If so, explain how, logically.

The question of children is foremost to everyone. And this issue is about ALL the children. Including the ones who are gay. If you deny them knowledge, keep them hidden from the fact that gay people exist, you are guilty of child abuse, and these children are going to pay the price. The anti-gay forces keep harping on how homosexuality will be taught in schools. I only wish that had been the case when I was in school. If kids know that we exist, those that are gay will have a lifeline. "There are others besides me." That would be such a comfort.

Why do you suppose suicide among young gay people is three times that of their hetero peers? By supporting the irrational beliefs of the anti-gay, you are guilty of their deaths. That starts at the pope and every other misguided and publicly-outspoken religious leader, and goes on down.

I am ashamed to live in world, let alone a state that feels that just because a human chooses to love another human being who happens to be the same sex should be denied their right to marry. How unfortunate considering a man and a woman today do not get married for only love, but for money, convenience, and power.
With the high percentage of divorce in our state and country you would think that Stand For Marriage committee along with churches, government officials, state officials, and parents wouldn't toss around the meaning of “marriage” so lightly as if straight “Book” abiding couples wouldn't turn a leaf and rip their papers up if something didn't please them in the slightest. Our fear of this invisible binding will be the cause of our own madness.
“Marriage, a unified binding between one man and one woman.” So explain me this, How can something so "binding" be broken by a court rooms "invisible" detangle? How can a symbol of unified togetherness be used as an excuse for your own fear of your children's minds? It is this “Book” you and the government use to toss at them. Separation of church and state? Not likely.
Apparently the idea of “Forever Together” only applying to straight couples is down right ignorant and demeaning! The number only grows larger when I think of the gay couples whom would fight to “unify” their life and love with this piece of paper, but I say you are better. You do not need this to make you happy, you do not need this binding to unify your life together because the ridiculous battle that you will have to overcome I feel wont taste as sweet as you would think, because you are already better. I know that my statement means nothing and it is just what it is, an opinion. So if anything I will take away from this decision of our states right hand power struggle is marriage no longer means anything to me. It is a symbol, this does not unify two people in life just in credit, mortgage, car loans, bank statements so on.
You do not choose whom you fall in love with, you can choose whom you marry, whether it be twice over, or 6 times over. Marriage only means something to those who really fight for it.
Thank you.

Khristina, do not lose heart. LOVE is still here :)

Here is something that I posted on another thread that you may be interested in:

"It's a sad morning but let's look at the bright side.

What has happened will hopefully be a wake up call for all those who value the freedom and LOVE that should be our birthright as individuals.

I live in California and my knowledge of the mormons was virtually non existent before they moved into the state to orchestrate the prop h(8) fiasco.

Researching this group on the internet I was really disturbed at what I found out about their beliefs and how dangerous they are to the health of the whole planet.

I urge everyone to get informed and get involved in dealing with this horrible insane group that is actively trying to make the United States into another theocracy such as in the Islam Countries.

Here is a website with a horrifying account of the "Mountain Meadows Massacre", the most horrible religious crime ever committed on US soil:

It is important that we become aware of the very real danger of this insane homophobic organization that also demeans women with their insane celestial marriage insanity.

We can deal with this situation! We all need to get involved, apathy is not a solution!

Here is a simple process for safely dismantling the insane edifice of the Patriarchal Religious Military Industrial Complex of which the mormon church is a prominent player:
