Why does Obama need control of nongovernment internet sites? Is he planning a coup? The internet is the last vestige of free speech in America.

This plan is most likely not going anywhere unless it has GOP support for reasons of national secutity.

He's already had a coup d'etat, are you seeing it? Communist/Socialist takeover?

The internet will be next with this enabling act:

We don't need the government messing with the private sector's computers...There are plenty of bright people in the private sector the are more than qualified to handle internet security...Let the government screw-up their own computer systems...Besides they are not the best at internet security, government comuters are probably hacked daily by the Chinese god knows who else...

I honestly am beginning to believe, in light of previous policies from the present regime, and their dveious agendas, that they really fear the power of the Internet and its people. You see, we can very quickly organize here. And we have too much freedom of speech. And we can communicate instantly around the world.

The power we have on the internet is feared by the government, and I think this is a back-door way for them to try and disable it any time for any reason.

One thing I do NOT trust is the Fed.

he doesn't need gop support, he can just do it through a czar who is not accountable to anyone except obama.....we're on our way to a totally controlled country and if you want to preserve our freedoms as described in our constitution, we better WAKE UP and act....contact your politicians in no uncertain terms and, if we still have the ability to vote in 2012....make your vote count...and even if we can vote...remember that obama is organizing his civilian military,(acorn thugs and americorp and others), who will try to keep opposing citizens from voting.....IMHO obama is trying to take over completely....are we going to let that happen?

It sure is, when Iran was having problems after the election, they cut Internet and cell phone service off, essentially cutting communication to the outside world and within the country...Our government will do the same in the guise of an "Internet security" breech...During hurricane Charley they cut cell service to all private citizens so that only police and fire rescue had service...We were unable to communicate with anyone other than our neighbors...Our government would do the same on a nationwide scale regardless of the law, they wouldn't think twice about "pulling the plug" on all communications except their own, regardless of the law, unfortunately, that is the sad truth...

Oh, they can assure us it's only in case of cyber-attacks, like the ones China hurls at us, to protect government computer networks.

Baloney. Do you trust the Feds? I don't.

Too bad they don't seem to have the techies good enough to construct invulnerable firewalls. In fact, government systems from the city level on up regularly seize up and crash.

Do you trust the government to do anything right? I don't. And I never expect to get the truth from them.

Hell no I don't trust our government...Don't think for one second they wouldn't cut all forms of communication if they wanted to...Oops "the power went out" or oops the Internet went out, "we didn't do it"...Do you really think they wouldn't feed us some BS story explaining why communications went out...This is why it is so important to watch who you vote for and why we need more choices other than the current two party system, we need 3 or 4 parties...A law should be enacted which states that any member of Congress bringing forth a bill that infringes on the rights of the people will be removed from office indefinitely...This would save time and money, the courts wouldn't have to deal with the lawsuits from people having their rights trampled and the bad apples would be removed from Congress...It would be like killing two birds with one stone...

It seems that just before this they were toying with the "snitch" idea...get people to rat each other out at flag@whitehouse.gov, then people began receiving unsolicited emails from the White House, and began wondering...where did the White House get my email address???

I do expect a full frontal-assault soon from Hussein's socialists and communists against the internet. Maybe this is the beginning. That way the can shut down dissent and block anti-Hussein sites, etc., etc. They can control all the media (radio, newspapers, TV, Internet) from the man behind the curtain. Unowho...Soros.

Senate Bill Would Give President Emergency Control of Internet

Details of a revamped version of the Cybersecurity Act of 2009 show the Senate bill could give the president a "kill switch" on the Internet and allow him to shut out private networks from online access.

A Senate bill would offer President Obama emergency control of the Internet and may give him a "kill switch" to shut down online traffic by seizing private networks -- a move cybersecurity experts worry will choke off industry and civil liberties.

Details of a revamped version of the Cybersecurity Act of 2009 emerged late Thursday, months after an initial version authored by Sen. Jay Rockefeller, D-W.V., was blasted in Silicon Valley as dangerous government intrusion.

"In the original bill they empowered the president to essentially turn off the Internet in the case of a 'cyber-emergency,' which they didn't define," said Larry Clinton, president of the Internet Security Alliance, which represents the telecommunications industry.

"We think it's a very bad idea ... to put in legislation," he told FOXNews.com .

Clinton said the new version of the bill that surfaced this week is improved from its first draft, but troubling language that was removed was replaced by vague language that could still offer the same powers to the president in case of an emergency.

"The current language is so unclear that we can't be confident that the changes have actually been made," he said.

The new legislation allows the president to "declare a cybersecurity emergency" relating to "non-governmental" computer networks and make a plan to respond to the danger, according to an excerpt published online -- a broad license that rights experts worry would give the president "amorphous powers" over private users.

"As soon as you're saying that the federal government is going to be exercising this kind of power over private networks, it's going to be a really big issue," Lee Tien, a senior staff attorney with the Electronic Frontier Foundation, told CNET News.

A Senate source familiar with the bill likened the new power to take control of portions of the Internet to what President Bush did when he grounded all aircraft on Sept. 11, 2001, CNET News reported.

Spokesmen for Senator Rockefeller and the Commerce Committee did not return calls seeking comment before this article was published.

So your Hussein is crafting the most oppressive, intrusive, enslaving government this country has ever seen, with the help of his communists, socialists and "community organizers," and thugs like SEIU and ACORN...a government that intends to intrude into EVERY aspect of our lives...yet we're the "bunch of idiots"?

Yep.

Where was your outrage when Bush crapped all over the constitution? Where was your outrage when Bush lied to the american people about his misguided "war on terror". Where was your outrage when on 9/11, Bush grounded all aircraft execpt ONE...the one carrying his friends, the Bin Laden, family to safety.

Yep, you're a bunch of hypocritical idiots alright...pissed that you lost an election fair and square. Pissed that a black man beat the crap out of your Caribou Barbie & Hanoi Hero. Pissed that you're in the minority now, and there's nothing you can do about it except create hate/fear by spreading misinformation and half-truths spoonfed to you by lobbyists/racist media/extreme right-wing conspiracy theorists.

Sucks to be you huh.

Let's stop you right there, huh. I live in the present. I don't even like talking about Slick Willy and the dress, Slick Willy's lame-assed response to the WTC, Carter leaving American citizens to rot for 444 days...nope, I never like to remind people about all that garbage. Never bring it up anymore. If you ever catch up to August 29, 2009, let me know.

the difference is that it IS NOT THE SAME TYPE....it is broader and more pervasive and totally without recourse or accountablility to Americans...and the idiots will be those who allowed this to happen....but it will be too late....WAKE UP AMERICA!
