That would make for a facinating studey i would like to know the % of waste and fraud there is in any charity. So we could compare it to the gov't programs...
And if there is no milk from the go't teet the cons man the lay about will find a way to abuse what is there in way of private sources.
In a down economy ...when the rich guys are laying off workers....It is not rational to expect them to increase charitable spending to support the workers they just let go. The number of those with genuine need would increase at the same time as giving shrinks. Thus even in a setting where churches dispense all food aide there would be times when the would not be able to meet needs.
There was a time when a far large % of aide was delivered by charitables...why did we augment that with Gov't?

The role fore Gov't in this area is glaring.
There seems to be a few impressions one can draw.
1) To some adhering to a no gov't theory is more important to some folks than in discharging a moral imperative.
2) You may actually believe that the hungry can all be fed with a zero gov't program...give me an example in an industrialised state where that approach has worked..
3) you are indiffrent or worse

Made up numbers mean nothing, honey.

If you find the numbers distressing, you should call your Republican House member and ask him or her to do something this term.

They didn't do anything during the 112th.

They were until Kerry gave that comment.

It was teabaggers that were pushing for war, even before the chemical attacks.

Then when Obama was going to react, they whine.

There is no washing the egg off of teabaggers faces, they accumulate more and more everyday.

Learn to live without govt. support.
The govt. has to collect the money they send you three times.
They take it from everyone, not just the rich. NY, western or otherwise, is bankrupt.
I went to college in Binghamton. The bridges were falling into the many rivers that flow through the area. That was 20 years ago. It's worse now.
Just like teabagger.

Use all the resources, infrastructure and amenities some else paid for, then whine when asked to pay for damage or maintenance.

There are many things that only the gov't can do...
The feeding of the hungry is a moral imperative, as a christian you can not deny this.
Do you believe that absent gov't the needs of the hungry will be fully addressed by private means.
If you do you are lying to your self. In an economic downturn a businessman has to lay off workers in oder to survive. Do you actually expect him to increase his charitable donation enough to support those same workers?
Do I expect gov't to be the sole agent in support... No.
Do I expect gov't to be full and complete in it's funding..No ..politically unrealistic.
I do expect both charity and Gov't to make an earnest effort at this moral cause.
I do expect that In times of economic downturn gov'ts % of this support will increase.

Your missing the point....there are functions that only Gov't can perform...that was the essence of my post...did you get that...or were you just looking for a opening for your reply...
It is a legitimate argument when we debate how much gov't and where. The Republican who's post I had responded to, had observed the state of roads and bridges in New York at the same time saying we could do with out gov't if the recipients would learn to be self reliant... My counter is that there are somethings that only Gov't can do...thus a failure to fund those things is a flaw
Where we might disagree is when the proposition is applied to people...
The are people who need and deserve the support that they receive and to deny it is a flaw as well

Oh, you expect folks to pay taxes when they feel like?

. Well, our Military readiness, our infrastructure, our safety cannot rely on your possible benevolent contribution to the government. Even Jesus says: Give to Caesar what's due to Caesar

. We currently have some Red States where people go to jail for failing to pay parking or other Municipality fees... And, I hear no T-baggrz on Fox News protesting those local government abuses????

.If you don't want to pay your taxes, form or build your own country somewhere else, greedy GOP pigs...

I pay tens of thousands annually. I used to pay more when I worked 80 hour weeks.

My property taxes are $12k/yr. I pay my share.

Do you?

It was designed to point out that there is a lot of other Americans and causes that needs help too.
I am a co-founder of an NGO that provides sports and recrational oppertunities to hanicapped children and aduts in western N.Y. our funding comes from grants as well as donations from private citizens and business's . We couldn't afford to lose the support of either entity.
You're a parasite.

I just saw the salaries of the people that work at the 9/11 museum.

They took spare change from schoolchildren to fund their six figure racketeering jobs.

how clever...i hope you didn't spend too much time on it...
The fact you can turn a atta boy on your work with historical sites into an assault on me for having said other causes need help too ...like the special need kids I have worked... with into me being a parasite...
