Full story: Feministing 426
Yesterday evening the House of Representatives passed the "Pain-Capable Unborn Child Protection Act," a ban on legal abortions 20 weeks or more after fertilization based on dubious evidence that fetuses can feel pain during the second trimester. Full Story

Wow!

Rate of pregnancy as a result of rape is low???

What are the 'mechanics' which lead to such a low rate?

Can't wait to hear this!

This is a shame because this is a matter between the woman and her doctor. If there is an abnormality or problem found after the 20th week, it shouldn't be up to a politician to decide. There are rare exceptions where the woman's life is at risk which is why govt. has no business getting in the way of women's health.

Agreed. You have to wonder why these extreme right-wing politicians are trying so hard to fool us all into believing their insanity.

Personally, I think these guys just don't CARE if the woman has been raped. They still want the woman FORCED to gestate the pregnancy, no matter what the circumstances are. And they want us to believe there's "no war on women." Riiiiiiiiiiight.@@

I don't suspect they are real high thanks to EMERGENCY CONTRACEPTION offered at hospitals when a rape victim is admitted!! Isn't that WONDERFUL????

OH WAIT........the CC and other religious misogynistic nut cases are against that too!!!! So, really Dan would it matter if the rate were high???

Would it??

Careful Dan, you might have to THINK of an honest answer.

Can't figure out why these 20 week people are so bonkers over birth control and the morning after pill.
That is long before 20 weeks.

You must live in a bad neighborhood. Sorry for those you know who were victims.

I was actually asking for numbers beyond what you could share with me anecdotally. The article mentions rape in context of the proposed new law and so did a poster. The article was somewhat puzzling as it inferred that reporting rape to the authorities somehow "redefines" rape itself.

What EXACTLY does neighborhoods have to do with rape? Wrong AGAIN Dan!!

Here were the locations:

1. In the military in a different state than mine.
2. In a upper crust suburb of Mpls
3. Another suburb of Mpls
4. And yet another suburb of Mpls
5. In Mpls

Think I got it pretty well.

You know 5 rape victims, 4 of which were victimized in Minneapolis and/or it's surrounds.

Minneapolis sounds to me like a tough town.

Time to learn how to handle a gun and not be afraid of using it. Abortion can't fix TRAUMA!!!!!!

Who said it would?

However, forcing a woman to continue a pregnancy from rape to term most certainly can ADD to her trauma. Not that you care.

Not that guns have anything to do with this, but I own several, and in fact already know how to handle them. Many women already do, even pro-choice women.

Now what?

And your point is that abortion is a "fix" for what ails you. LOLLLLL!!!! How about "prevention"? How about abstention. Since the dawn of time, women have had the same dilemma, getting pregnant from intercourse. Well, bloody hell. Abortion can't fix stupid and irresponsible. It also doesn't "fix" STDs, does it?

No, that was NOT the point. It does NOT fix the rape, clearly. It does NOT fix the trauma, I already acknowledged this, and I don't believe anyone else implied it would. However, forcing a raped woman to remain pregnant from the rape will most certainly ADD to her trauma.

Moron, we were talking about rape, remember?

I see you've dropped the gun issue. Is that because you realized that assuming PC women are against guns only makes you look like an ass?

Not at all...self defense is a prime directive for me. Rapes do indeed happen to the stupid and irresponsible just as often as to innocent victims, so rape is still the issue. I never changed the issue, although you tried your damndest to make it appear so. Nice try bitty.
