Government shuts down after Congress fails to pass spending bill

Oct 1, 2013 Full story: USA Today 809

The federal government shut down for the first time in nearly two decades following more than a week of legislative jockeying by House Republicans to extract concessions from President Obama and Senate Democrats on the Affordable Care Act.

Though Republicans have considered over the last several weeks a range of provisions relating to ObamaCare, the one they settled on in this package would force Congress, the president, and many other administration officials and staff onto ObamaCare without additional subsidies. GOP lawmakers described the proposed mandate as a matter of "fairness."
"If the president and Senate Democrats are going to force the American people to live under ObamaCare, then they and all Washington leaders should not be shielded from the law," one GOP aide said. WHAT'S GOOD FOR THE GOOSE IS GOOD FOR THE GANDER.
It seems rather odd Republicans have been demonized in this battle. They are representing the half that are screaming in the street about having a law passed through trickery and deceit. It is hard to fathom how anyone who is half sane would not stop and wonder about why certain folks get waivers.....especially the scumbags who have imposed this law on the citizens? This isn't an administration, it's a regime.

The recent polls don't seem to reflect those "compromises" as a new high of 74 percent of Americans disapprove of the way the Republicans in Congress are handling Washington’s budget crisis.

What is interesting is that in the hours working up to the government shutdown on Sept. 30, Republican members of the House Rules Committee were developing a strategy to keep a clean CR off the floor, guaranteeing the government would remain shut down.

Though at least 28 House Republicans have publicly said they would support a clean CR if it were brought to the floor -- enough votes for the government to reopen when combined with Democratic support -- a House rule passed just before the shutdown essentially prevents that vote from taking place.

<quoted text>You should be ashamed for saying such a racist thing. Republicans have brought compromise after compromise and the incompetent leadership REFUSES to negotiate. THAT is what our democracy is about, you know. EVERYONE should be represented and THAT is what the Republicans are doing....their jobs. The media and liberal hacks have done everything they can to brainwash the masses into demonizing the Republicans and unfortunately it is working. Sheeple are not very bright and they ARE the majority.
Half the people don't want oscummacare and mostly because THEY are going to be stuck with the bill while the other half who want it are going to pay little to nothing for it. Doesn't seem fair the taxpayers are getting hosed by oscumma and they don't even realize how bad.
It's just a crying shame..... Americans WANT to fix the health care problems but this administration wants to shove something up their azzes without even knowing how to make it work. If a company did this, they would be bankrupt. Oh wait....that's coming.
Sheeple like you should actually pay attention, to what goes on in Washington....

Odumbo's gubmint in action..........The Electronic Benefits Transfer (EBT) system allows recipients of government food stamps to purchase goods using a digital card with a set spending limit, but for a few hours over the weekend, that limit disappeared for many users visiting Walmart stores in Louisiana.
Walmart and local police in Springhill and Mansfield confirmed to CBS affiliate KSLA that officers were called into the stores to help maintain order Saturday as shoppers swept through the aisles at two stores and bought as much as they could carry.
Xerox, which hosts some of the infrastructure used by the EBT card system, told KSLA that a power outage during a routine maintenance test caused the temporary glitch.
Walmart workers phoned their corporate headquarters to ask how they should handle all the shoppers with unlimited, government-funded spending limits, and were told to keep the registers ringing.
This is a perfect example why we need to keep govt. out of our pockets. First, every single one of those freeloading gutter trash criminals should return the merchandise they stole or go to jail. They should be forced to work off the costs incurred during and after their theft. Walmart will absorb some of this and they should for allowing gutter trash to charge flat screens when they should know this isn't what the cards were for. On the other hand, imagine what the liberal media would have done if they denied to let a poor food stamp beggar his due. We know how much the liberal media would have enjoyed stoning WalMart. Xerox, should also chip in because the fail safe measure didn't work because the cards should have been inoperable until the problem was fixed. I would hope in the future if some street hag comes in with her food stamp card, a store would have to know something is amiss if there is no limit on the card. There should be a written policy for this. Moochers have to deal with issues like this. When they mooch off another, they have to deal with problems that occur. They are getting help....a gift. They don't have a right to mooch. They should be held accountable because they KNEW they were taking advantage of the system. They knew they were stealing and they should be punished.

Haven't seen a poll like that but no doubt the liberal elite has been effective at fooling the gullible. The demoncrats have refused to negotiate as usual but the sheeple are too stupid to realized they've been duped. The Republicans will cave in no doubt and the demoncrats will win. Socialized medicine will slither in and this country will become another welfare state. Sad but sheeple are stupid and lazy. The fact you can trust the biggest liar in history is enough proof I need to know you really don't know anything.

You are such a low life mental midget......conservatives never wanted Medicare you moronic piece of rotten dingleberry. They don't want oscummacare either you stupid slout.

Thanks to govt. intervention, persons who reach a certain age....deemed by the govt....are NOT able to get their own insurance other than supplemental. They have been FORCED to take the govt. plan or get nothing. Most of these people would have had their own policies if the govt. didn't interfer. You're just too stupid to understand that you are nothing more than a useful idiot the liberal elite needs to parrot their propaganda.

It's hard to fathom even a mouthbreather like yourself, doesn't know this.

It IS socialized care for the elderly, dumbasz. And now, oscummacare will force the rest of the country to get locked in....except of course the sleazebags who imposed this on the people.

Why is this so easy?

Older, retired people are always considered high risk due to age and pre-existing conditions. This is why over 90% of retired people had no insurance prior to Medicare - unfortunately, you are in fact unable to even substantiate your nonsense. Here's some food for thought (if you're capable of this);

"Medicare was created in 1965 when people over 65 found it virtually impossible to get private health insurance coverage. Medicare has made access to health care a universal right for Americans once they reach age 65. This has helped improve the health and longevity of older Americans."

You simple minded fool.
It was the same group who never had insurance except it was one way to sell socialized medicine to the gullible. The intent was to plan for a complete take over. The Kennedys had planned on switching Americans over to the dark side long ago. Ted couldn't finish the job. He needed a scumbag like obama to finish his dirty work.

There were plenty of folks who wanted to stay on their health plans but now there are no options, at a certain age....you have govt. care. Now that it is bankrupt....it's time to roll everyone else in until the company collapses or becomes another commie country.

You are the simple minded fool who will gladly by led by the nose ring into socialism because you're too stupid and lazy to manage your life on your own.

The ignorant and gullible see nothing wrong with a govt. take over of our liberties. The ignorant and gullible are so easily swayed by the propaganda promoted by the liberal elite.
