Scrambling! Plunging! Urgent! And that's just the header and the lede. Obviously the hand-wringing Party will disembowel itself before readers reach the third paragraph.

Any Democrat they pick will be TOAST!!! Webb knows he won't get re-elected. Perriello is just dumb enough to try...his ego is way to big.

If he runs for the office, it would make Periello easy to pick up on that outstanding warrant. That'd be cool.

Oh please not Kaine -- I thought we were rid of him. Go away, far away.

"My entering the race and getting into it is for the people of Virginia," AFTER reading Webb's statement....

I'm waiting for the real reason behind Webb not running for re-election. In '06 he and the Dems stressed that it was important we get him in the office so he can 'protect Virginia' for years to come...guess that has a short term shelf life.

Go Kaine Go! With Bozo Bob spending us into oblivion the Republican's need someone else to blame for things. Kinda draw the attention away from Bobby's spending habits. You know, a few million here, a few billion there. I'll be long gone when it's time to pay for it mentality so to speak. Still slamming one term Tommy though. If Kaine wins just think how happy Benganlandi, AKA XDSig, Tex, AKA ActionJackson and all the many other posters on here that post under many different names will be. You all can take your mind off our idiot Governor and slam another Democrat. Help you feel better so to speak. I know, it's still Obama's fault!

I'm hesitant to ask YOU for an objective opinion but what the hell.

Please explain "spending us into oblivion".

Even if Kaine wins, he's a loser. Sorry, had to stoop to your level for a bit. So now you're down on Governor McDonnell for spending money like a Democrat? Amazing.

How about some civil discourse? Jim Webb can do whatever he wants, but I will miss him in the Senate. He has been a true independent voice, and has worked diligently on issues that matter, and not always the ones that would win him popularity votes. Tim Kaine was a good governor and is a decent human being. I'll take character over arrogance any day.

Would you agree WE have been complaining about big government, a budget deficient in the trillions and too much spending? Lets take your boy Bozo who campaigned on these issues during the election and he in fact agreed with us on these very points. Lets fast forward to today and he has given millions in grants to various programs and now wants to spend billions on transportation we don't have. To pay for this he wants to obtain low interest loans and bonds from the Federal Government. Is he not doing the exact same thing the Obama and Bush administration's have been doing for years? He says no tax increase, that's a joke, so how are we going to pay these debts along with the government's? Our Country & State are broke from spending us into oblivion. Our elected officials will continue to add to the debt on every level of government until finally no one will lend us another dime. What do we do then, stick a big sign in the ground and offer the USA up for sale? Foreign interests already own much of our country. I guess selling the rest won't matter.

Pauline, anyone that has delivered a response speech to at State of the Union address as Webb did in 2007 can hardly be called independant. Thank you for playing.

"Civil Discourse"? What about the rude and disrespectful manner in which President George Bush was treated by newly installed Senator Jim Webb? Civility is a two-way street. Moreover, Webb has NEVER been an "independent voice." Otherwise, he would have NEVER voted straight along party lines in all issues that actually matter to Virginians.

Maybe our next rep should come from the Haven or Lee Park? Considering how the taxpayer dollar gets frittered away around here we might as well get someone who knows who the ultimate welfare town really works.

Not to forget those industrious self starters that are seemingly welded to the front of the local library.

I realize you were not 'speaking' to me, but I had to reply anyway. You are correct -- conservatives have been denouncing big government and debt spending by our government. You probably didn't notice, but I did make a 'non-supportive' comment a couple of weeks ago when this transportation bill became known. I don't like it, and do not think it is wise to do so. I will say in his defense that I heard Creigh Deeds say in December (at a public forum at UVA) that if we knew how badly our bridges all over the Commonwealth were in disrepair that we wouldn't sleep well (paraphrasing). Having said that, I don't think that is what this proposed debt is going to pay for in total -- I honestly do not know. IF that is what this transportation is supposed to fix, I may feel a bit better about it as I must say I believed the fear I saw in Creigh Deeds face when he said it.

You crack me up "the real reason behind....." like there's some big conspiracy going on. Why so paranoid? Its not like he's leaving half-way through his elected office or anything. He was elected, found working in the Senate not to his liking, and isn't going to try for another term. I've heard he may considered for Sec. of Defense. Thank goodness he's been in office to push through some much needed changes in VA benefits. The man was true to his word on that mark.
