The cost to establish Mayport as a "nuclear friendly" home port for a Nimitz class supercarrier is outrageous and unnecessary.

Marry that to the other (misc) infrastructure needed to absorb that carrier and its crew makes the whole idea, ludicrous.

I personally gain nothing regardless where these carriers are home ported. I've no dog in this fight.
Having said that and having been in the Nimitz class carrier business, I can authoritatively say it's just nuts.

Has anybody reading this ever bothered to ask the people of Mayport Fishing Village how they feel about the idea of Naval Station Mayport becoming 'nuclear friendly' and whether or not it could enable the building of a cruise line right in front of their communtity!?

Good Bye Carrier, Senator Webb has no power here. What is all the hoopla, Mayport until a few years ago had the JFK, they can manage a "nuclear" carrier as well. This is a new carrier, we didn't get rid of one, we've ADDED one. therefore, we are not out anything. Welcome the newest Carrier to Mayport and be done with this, problem solved...

of course it's not a done deal.......it was only another false promise from the corrupt obama government to buy healthcare votes....

it would cost over 500 million dollars, not counting cost over runs, cost increases, and a estimated 250 million in "unrelated cost" and 8-10 years to have the carrier just a little farther south.

it's all BS, more smoke & mirror promises. Bill Nelson and Ander Crenshaw plan on dangling this carrot in front of voters to ride out the rest of their career in congress.
