The ice melt floods that created the Scablands was perfectly 'natural'. It was not perfectly 'normal'. In fact, it was a unique event.

That is the problem with 'natural'. Everything except the paranormal is 'natural'. So there is not much 'unnatural' going on. But not that much is 'normal'. In fact, the whole of AGW is not 'normal' since it is a departure from 'normal' conditions caused by the unique changes from industrial buildup.

Now, don't you feel stupid? A normal reaction would be to feel very stupid. Or are you not that 'normal'.

Nope. I don't feel stupid. I feel pity for you. What a narrow understanding you have. "Unique event." Really? You are screwing with me, right?

I love how you argue like you know what your talking about. Your perceptions and conclusions are skewed by bias. You wouldn't know the truth if you swam up and groped it inappropriately in the bath house you frequent.

The usual inference is that anything in the natural world that is not human influenced is considered to be natural in nature.

The problem is that the inference is that everything 'natural' is 'normal' or 'as it is supposed to be'. But natural doesn't mean that. It means that it is not 'anthropogenic' or 'driven by man'.

Anyway, Nuff said. The misuse of the term will undoubtedly continue because it is purely demagoguery (using the emotional impact of word choices while staying technically correct in usage)

Demagoguery seems to be the main 'weapon' in politics as well as discussion boards. Trying to communicate is a last resort..

One problem is that people see what they want to see. They find or interpret evidence to support the conclusion they want to see.
You can make it as complicated or simple as you want, but some information is generally missing from the arguement.
Therefore, assumptions to fill in a certain point of view is put in.

The 'world view' certainly influences what we think is being said, yet words can be used precisely and one can make simple clear explantions that are not subject to much confusion. Unfortunately, the current 'normal' is to maximize confusion and misleading inferences. Maximizing the ability to twist things to incompatible worldviews (aka the political skill of saying nothing with the maximum number of words)

I feel rather sad for these people who feel so helpless, they need to put the world to rights on the internet as faceless nonentities.

Let's be thankful that LessFact isn't in charge of anything that affects our lives.

First off, we'd be forced to spell forty with a U.
