I, for one, would have liked to have seen President Obama condemn racial and ethnic profiling in his lengthy and otherwise far-reaching State of the Union address.

You can't fool me, Mr. Navarette. The only reason you wrote this idea-flimsy piece was so you could vent your anger at "white males," who you are "a little tired of." I'm a little tired of your blatant stereotypes-- an inch away from bigotry, by the way-- your logic-free "arguments," and narrow-minded, negative view of Americans in favor of undocumented immigrants.

"Focusing on people because of their behavior or criminal history is fine."

Mr. Navarette, does this mean authorities could rightfully focus on the "behavior" of typical illegal aliens and rightfully arrest and deport them?

Also, Mr. Navarette, you say you are "tired off" white males not being "profiled". You just profiled them yourself. Also, maybe they are tired of seeing their tax money spend on numerous government programs that benefit special interest groups based on race. I love your idea of eliminating race completely in goverment activites. No special fund allocations, affirmitive action, attemps to have all schools and businesses "look" multicultural. Oh, and we had to have a latina on the Supreme Court. Do you really want "race" out of consideration for goverment decision making. Somehow I doubt it.

Wrong. Navarette is a corporate shill. He'd paid by companies like walmart to champion letting more third world scum into america. Business loves the cheap labor of immigrants.

His agenda is that of a progressive and dangerous for America. Mouthpiece or not he is underminding the immigration laws and must be exposed.

"We can assume that Inhofe didn't get a dictionary for Christmas. If he had, he might know that "Middle Eastern" is not a race and "Muslim" is not an ethnicity."

For a minute there, I was wondering if we were racially profiling. Thanks for setting us straight, Reuben. Now whenever someone accuses me of supporting racial profiling, I can tell them Muslim is not an ethnicity, and Middle-Eastern is not a race, and point them to the dictionary.

I wonder how many more of these embarrassingly stupid essays the editors of the PT will print before they just can't take the derisive laughter anymore?

1.) Inhofe is an idiot and what he says should be not taken into account in any conversation.

2.) That Mexican border is more porous since Reagan by every president. It's only a matter of time before a clean shaven Arab walks across the border with Illegals and detonates a suit case nuclear bomb in one of our border cities.

3.) I don't care if you profile me. I'm mixed race. White say I'm black, blacks say I'm white and Latinos speak Spanish to me thinking I'm one of them.(shrug) Profile me. I have nothing to hide and neither should anyone else care if they have nothing to hide.

Navarette, and the Press Telegram, thinks of government as a parental figure. People who usually gravitate to union life, always think in terms of parental victimizer boss vs child servant worker. This is why he always makes mistakes when trying to qualify his world.
If my ethnicity had all the components of every person who tried to commit an act of terrorism, successful or not, against the United States, I would have no problem being given extra hassles at airports. It's for my own safety, and of hundreds, if not thousands of others. If I DO have a problem with it, it would be taken up on a grass-roots level amongst myself, and the political and social leaders of my ethnicity, as well as people I knew face to face.
But that would be taking personal responsibility for a problem in my own life. Navarette can't believe in that. That's why he can't remember that if we had racial profiling prior to 9/11 considered a given, the world trade center would be standing today. He'd rather it be gone, as a part of his initiative to keep middle-eastern people from feeling picked upon, or delayed at airports.
