Ried said "we don't need no damned budget."

"“Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid said it would be "foolish" for Democrats to propose their own federal budget for 2012, despite continued attacks from Republicans that the party is ducking its responsibility to put forward a solution to the nation's deficit problems.

"There's no need to have a Democratic budget in my opinion," Reid said in an interview Thursday. "It would be foolish for us to do a budget at this stage."

It’s now a year later. The senate will again not pass a budget.

In a telephone conversation, Sen. Lamar Alexander, a Republican and a former two-term Tennessee governor, called the senate’s failure to pass a budget since April 29, 2009 a “huge failure.”

“The reason Harry Reid’s doing it is to protect the 23 Democrats who are running (for reelection),” Alexander said.“They want to say Republicans are ending Medicare as we know it, but if they present an honest budget they know there’ll have to be changes in Medicare and Medicaid, so they don’t want to talk about it during the election."
