Feds Award $625,000 Grant to Hire 5 Police Officers
Hagerstown, Maryland has received a $625,000 grant to hire five police officers as part of a Justice Department program to advance "community policing." The money is supposed to cover the new officers' salary and benefits for three years, after which local funds will be needed to pay for the positions.

While I think this is great, I wonder what happens to these fine officers when the grant money runs out? The city of Hagerstown, like many municipalities throughout the nation are tightening belts, and cutting staff. Will these new officers be let go, once the free money runs out?
