Sen. Specter is no advocate for medical marijuana

Recently Philadelphia news media reported that Sen. Arlen Specter said that he would ''absolutely'' use medical marijuana to mitigate the effects of his cancer and treatments if Pennsylvania allowed it and if ...

Maybe Sen. Spector is just being frank about marijuana use. Maybe he sees the situation differently now that he is facing another bout with cancer. Conversions occur when people gain perspective. Sadly, some people only gain that perspective when they, themselves need the help. You can replace the words medical marijuana with any other social need you like and the same will be true. For some of us, it's more comfortable to blame the victim than it is to do something about the injustice... until we become the victim. The bottom line for every issue and every election is ultimately, justice.

"Neither cannabis nor human physiology has changed since cannabis was illegitimately removed from the U.S. Pharmacopeia in 1940."

Cannabis has BEEN medicine since before history. The most despicable means imaginable were used to REMOVE it from the U.S.P.

I disagree with the Author. I believe when faced with ones demise, especially with cancer--a most dreadful of diseases, one becomes quite introspective. I believe Sen. Arlen Spector is sincere in his comment on usage of Medical Marijuana. Personally I hope he's using it currently, And I watch Sen. Spector carry on gratiously, even though he's obviously not feeling great. Chemo and Cancer are a double whammy. My heart goes out to the Senator.

Hummmmm....Moved to Bethlehem have we????

"makes everything seem funny instead of sad."

All the more reson to take the news "straight up", the Bush administration should have been and does need to be addressed. I do "love" the Specter-bashing letters though, they are so funny (and I am not smoking anything either) IMO he is one of the best there is on the hill right now.

Every year since 1998 Specter has voted for the Washington, D.C. Appropriations bill. This bill includes a specific prohibition against the city using any funds or resources in the bill to enact the medical marijuana bill that D.C. voted for with a 68% vote of the people.

Since his first bout with cancer Specter has ignored the persecution of medical marijuana growers, dispensaries and patients in California even though he has been a senior member of the senate Judiciary Committee for generations.

Specter cares about himself. He does not care about the American people who are being persecuted and mercilessly oppressed by laws that Specter helps to keep on the books.

Specter is just a typical self-serving right-winger. So cynical, in the face of Republican Bob Barr going over to the Libertarians, that Specter will use even his own illness in a lying effort to keep Republicans in the fold.

Specter is all about politics and nothing else. Self-serving cynical right-wing politics. He wants the chairmanship of the Judiciary Committee and keeping Republicans from going over to the Libertarians is his way of kissing butt to John McCain and maybe bringing some Republican defectors back to the the Party.

What's your point?

Do you have a problem talking directly with the person who wrote the letter?
